Having Acid cleaned my engine I discovered that my exhaust elbow was badly corroded and was forced to find a replacement. I had already sourced a new gasket at a Volvo shop in Santa Cruz and got stung for 18 euro, they also had an exhaust elbow in stock priced at 480 euro plus sales tax. Not having the money available to pay cash I searched eBay so that I could spread the cost over a few months. I ordered a stainless steel replacement from HD Marine in America total cost 405 euros. It took a month to arrive mainly due delays in Spanish Customs and additional paperwork (I am now an experienced Importer) and it is now installed.

That sounds v expensive for a ss exhaust elbow. I think mine cost half that, maybe tiny bit more, a year ago.

Its the downside of living on an Island, the US price was 264 usd the rest was postage, import tax, igic tax and a handling fee.
But you can get one in the uk tomorrow for much less than that. Paying 100 extra for 3 months paypal credit might explain why 3 months paypal credit is needed?

Parts for engines 340 + 70 postage = 484 euro - vat + import tax + igic ect. I recon that I saved at least 100 euro and got to pay over 3 months. Every order from the UK gets stuck in Madrid for a few weeks, if I can get cheap flights its better to pick things up in the uk.

I'm seeing orders from the UK being charged 50%+ in taxes, duties, collection fees, etc., in quite a few EU countries recently, and as you say, clearing customs can takes anything from a week or two to a few months
Incoming orders to UK seem to be completely random, some are fast and sensible, some are not...
