I,ve a 1990 Princess 435 with TAMD61 engines, there are two red lights installed on the dash (not on the Volvo instrument panels) these lights normally extinguish a couple of seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the first 'ON' position. However, The starboard engine light no longer goes off, even after the engine has started. I assumed they were diesel heater element indicators, which went off when the element came on, and the red light indicated a faulty element, but I,ve measured voltages across the element and get 13.8 volts, I,ve also changed the relay and checked voltages from the alternator etc but everything seems ok, and the engines and systems all seem to operate properly. Any idea,s from the forum would be greatly appreciated.

If there not on the black panels then they should not be Volvo related, but they could be bilgepump alarms or exhaust overheat alarms. Maybe if the boats new to you can you get in touch with the previous owner or info.

I think you will find that they are exhaust temp sensors, assuming the engine isn't overheating which could be impellor or another cooling problem.
Look to see if there is a wire going to a square connector on the exhaust just after bend where the flexible rubber section begins. If so, undo the screw holding it on and pull off the connector to see if the terminals inside are clean, if they are OK then you probably need a need temp probe, you can get them from Princess and it just screws into the exhaust pipe, you could try swapping them to see if the problem shifts to the other warning light.

Friend of mine had a mysterious after market red light, transpires it came on every time the bilge pump did, had us worried on a trip back from Swansea. He had just bought the boat .(f33) and we thought we were going to sink!

For ref engine bay bilge pump, audio / visual, alarm has been standard on Sealine's since about 1989, all but the very small one's. They are fitted to either, helm panel, overhead panel on flybridge models, or instrument panel.

We've got a 435 with 71Bs. Where exactly are the lights you mean? The only ones we have are the three in a white lined box on the each instrument panel below the pressure and oil temp gauges.
