We have just completed ours using 'microcare' which is available from Clarkson Knitting Ltd., Caerphilly. Tel 02920 861411.
Its a range of waterproof, breathable, hard wearing but soft suede finish materials. Used a lot by the commercial marine and transport industry and has an impressive technical spec. at a competitive price.
Had a reasonable choice of colours and patterns to choose from and we are very pleased with the end result.
Now the ladies are happy, next year its new instruments!!

Don't know where you are, but I've reacently bought material for curtains and some fake leather material for the upholstery. Both came from the market in the shopping centre at Barrow in Furness. If that's accessible to you they do good prices, both of these were £7.99 a metre and they have a huge stock of other materials.

I think the general advice would be - don't get anywhere that sells it under the 'marine' banner. I had a quote from CJ Marine who's numbers were just laughable.
