Hello,

Perhaps some of you may be able to recomend any books etc that relate to taking a boat to the med for a long atay (6-8 months). I am in the process of buying a motorboat to take me and new wife away for a career break / extended honeymoon next summer. The interntion is to go through the canals and then hit the med. I would be interested in any recomendations re: reading material relevant to this or any advice / tips from people that have done this before.

Thanks in advance.

Whereabout in the Med? Rod Heikell has a number of Med pilots - divided into specific areas, e.g. Spain, Southern France and Corsica, Italian water pilot [due for reprint and available Dec/Jan '03] and his 'bible' the Greek Waters pilot - available through all good nautical bookshops

The Nov 2002 edition of the Cruising World has an article on a trip from the Med to Bordeaux on a yacht - probably not your route but has useful info on locks/procedures etc.

Sorry about the delay in replying...

we have not decided yet, we will probably go south to spain, marbella etc then across to the balearics. Beyond that I will rpobably base the plan on what we read and peoples recomendations.

any ideas on whether we can get 34ft fairline targa through the canals? should be leaving in June.
