Our much loved and local club raced Moody S38 with a fractional rig, 2 x symmetric and 1 x asymmetric spinnakers and IRC rating of 0.950 will be in Grenada from Jan 1 and I would love to do a few regattas in and around the area from Feb until June 2017 and wonder if anyone has recommendations for fairly informal and fun events rather than serious racing ?

A mate of mine at my local club recommended Bequia Easter Regatta @ Bequia Sailing Club

Any other recomendations appreciated

Thanks

Aha. More information please! Did you just do a transat? I have a similar plan for about 5 years time. Some fun racing whilst over there would be great.

Aha some quick stalking shows you are entered for the Arc. Do you have a blog?

No blog yet but we will be putting something together during our Atlantic passage - I am looking for recommendations for regattas in the Caribbean after the ARC - we will be based in Grenada from January

I think you will find that in all of the regattas in the Eastern Caribbean they are taken pretty seriously (re competitiveness) - even in the non spinnaker and 'bareboat' classes.

There is a regatta in Grenada in January - it used to be called the LaSource regatta after previous sponsors, but it is now Grenada Sailing Week.

Then there is the Heineken Regatta in St Maarten in March (from the 2nd - 7th)

This is pretty large and (from reports received - I have not taken part) usually pretty competitive.

Bequia Easter Regatta is always good fun - I have been to a few in the past.

Then there is the Antigua Classics regatta from the 19th - 25th April

They won't consider a Moody S38 to be a classic, but you should definitely aim to be there - the big Classics always need extra crew.

Classics is almost back to back with Sailing Week next year - Sailing Week starts on the 29th April.

I have sailed in a few, and they are very competitive, especially if you intend to fly kites. And even if not, the Bareboat classes are enormous (and everybody thinks that they are Dennis Connors) :)

Looking forward to blog Chris. That boat needs a good sail. :)

If you are still in the area in August the Carriacou regatta might suit you. Not a huge turn out but definitely not too serious either.
Grenada Sailing Week had a cruisers class this year for the less racey entries. Bequia is also worth trying. I was at all of these this year but didn't compete. The social side was good though!

I know its a bit late but just to close this out - we arrived safely in St Lucia before christmas and then parked up in Grenada - did Grenada sailing week in Feb this year and it was great - I would have also done Bequia but couldn't get enough crew - maybe next year

For those that were looking for an ARC blog and didn't find it - its now on the BMYC web site at http://bmyc.org.uk/news/5123/
