Thanks .
Excellent service. We are there now.
You just brought us back to our boat.
I can also recommend 2*cod & chips for £10.95 at the Flying Dutchman.

Had a wonder down here today. Overheard a conversation about some kids who had been playing with a guys tender on the ATL. Not good, they had lost an oar and tried to start his engine. thankfully it didnt start I guess or I suspect they would have nicked it. Is the gate going to be in operation again, or was it open for a reason?

Also had a quick look at the new decking towards the end of the ATL. If I'm honest I was surprised to see that for its width 2m? There was only a centre span supporting the boards. My OH commented on them feeling unstable which is when I noticed, several had no screws in them as well. The rest of the ATL had two spaced supports and I saw the top end had 3... Just curious as the decking boards look fairly typical home stuff, and flexed a lot even with only my 13.6 stone weight...

Although it's true some kids got on the ATL and boarded someones dinghy, this was quickly rectified. The gate has no power at the moment so we allowed it to be left open so folk could get ashore. This was a very rare occurence and we are shortly employing more staff to provide even better security. The gate should be fixed this week.
The decking boards are of the same,if not better quality as the originals which have lasted 20 years, there were a few loose ones as they are having tamper proof bolts fitted, which will be done this week.
Did you notice the high quality galvanised steel frame on the end pontoon under the boards? This will give the walkway alot more stability, and with funding we hope to eventually have this all the way up including the better handrails which are fitted to the new pontoon making it alot safer.

I carried approx 70 passengers ashore on Saturday, all seemed impressed with the new part of the walkway, and appreciated the many hours of hard work and effort people have put in to get it back up and running, and we look forward to welcoming many more visitors this season.Hope to see you soon.
Cheers Phil.

That's good news Phil.

I think when it stops raining later I shall come and sample the delights of Queenborough and its recently refurbished landing, before continuing on to the island paradise of Harty Ferry.

I tip the scales a little higher than 'Beyondhelp' (due I hope to height as opposed to fatness....) and shall test your new decking boards without the screws thoroughly.

However I expect if I can manage to sail our boat there and dinghy over to the landing, I should be ok! It must be safer than the concrete slip.... :)

FWIW, when I used the ATL around 2008 I met a group of juvenile males & a young girl upon my return from the pub exiting the turnstile gate on their way back to shore and when the girl saw that I was hunting for my token she offered to show me how the group and their mates gained access whenever they wanted without any need for a token. The problem of youngsters accessing the ATL at that time was well known and leaving a tender was a risky business- perhaps the security is different now?

Power to the gate should be restored soon and when the new pontoon arrives the plan is to have cctv coverage although the logistics are difficult. The office may also be relocated to the new pontoon giving all round tighter security.

I'm surprised you didn't already know how  but it wasn't foolproof, perhaps it needed practice....
But seriously, I do hope that the gate does a good job of keeping that very small minority away, when it's reinstated. The place needs to succeed as a destination and QHT are certainly going in the right direction.

I know stuff like this can happen, and I saw the group of kids, didn't realise until I overheard the conversation later what had happened - it really annoyed me.

That's good to know. You could consider CCTV or something. I know nothing of your setup there, but it would be easy to relay it to HQ if power is available. Staff seems perhaps overkill, as surely they would be work hours only?

Ok interesting, will re-check and update my thoughts.. although the wood itself didnt seem as substantial as the older stuff, but perhaps that was the way it was supported.

Did you notice the high quality galvanised steel frame on the end pontoon under the boards? This will give the walkway alot more stability, and with funding we hope to eventually have this all the way up including the better handrails which are fitted to the new pontoon making it alot safer.

Yes I did in fact I had a good look, and this looked fantastic. I've no doubt that that will last for a very long time indeed.

Again don't want to take away from any of that, the internet can be too de-personalised sometimes. I like it around there, I've a small sports boat ~17ft and find it a very convenient place to stop off and collect friends who live on the island. Its also a great location to explore around the site, only bad thing is that damn slipway from hell!! But at least its all tide!

Hi Phil,
I just found this thread about the ATL..
Do you still run the trot?
If yes, thanks for letting me walk the dog a couple of times a few weekends ago. It was a great help.
Do you still do upto 4 hrs free on a mooring/£1 trot and is it £10 overnight still?
Which moorings do you cover?

Interesting to read that as I was charged more than £12 for a mooring tonight.
