Hi Chris,
I am still running the trot boat,we have now employed another harbour operator so we have 7 days a week cover 12 hours a day.
Free mooring up to 4 hours,if not staying over 4 hours there is a small charge of £1 return per person to use the trot boat,the mooring fee is £10 overnight for boats up to 27ft,£12 28ft to 36ft.

Was a pleasure to help on your last visit.

This was introduced this season due to some complaints we got last year.Visitors didn't think it was fair when they were paying the same on their 30ft yacht as the bloke on the next mooring in their £2m 50ft Gin Palace.

That is no excuse a mooring is a mooring
do you charge them to use the trot boat too as they can obviously afford to pay more than lesser mortals

I'm not giving an excuse....it was done to make it fairer and it's what visitors wanted from feedback.No matter what is done you will never please everyone.

"a mooring is a mooring" I had a buoy there for the summer a couple of years ago, from Nigel of the Harbour Trust, it was charged by length. That seemed to make a bit of sense, because surely you need much cheaper ground tackle for a small yacht, than a big heavy gin palace?
However, to make complete sense, time on a buoy should be charged by weight?

I like the new guy on the trot boat - very welcoming. Most of the locals like myself can usually find ourselves a vacant spot but for others arriving at an unfamiliar port, a helpful chap in a launch is most appreciated and I'd suggest encourage you to return.

I was toying with trying my 'Ramsgate boat length trick' when he asked for the length of the boat but decided against it!

They had run out of 3's when they were finishing the sail cover on a Friday afternoon, though I wouldn't notice...

Can I suggest a visit to the Town Hall type house in the High Street, open as a museum at wknds I believe, the area has amazing history

I'm wondering if the Clipper fleet will be around on Saturday night, baring in mind their parade up the Thames starts at 10.00 on Sunday.

There's also a slim chance of bumping into RKJ in the Flying D which would give me a chance to prove/disprove the much discussed Medway myth....

+1,many people have positive views about just what needs doing to bring the place up towards its potential as a sailing centre, but there are one or two knuckle dragging cliques/families of scarecely human mouth-breathing neanderthals among the locals who feel threatened or just hate everything like progress, I have met one or two of them.

It could be the Lymington of Kent (or something) and many would love things to head in that direction, if it was in Holland or somewhere it would not be allowed to stagnate like this.

Things are looking up though, I hope the new pontoon arrangements develop a good reputation for *security* above all else, good luck to all those trying to bring the place up, Jerry

Whilst not a sailor, and not even really owning anything special at all, I have used that pontoon on various occasions and have to say I'm with jerrytug. It could be something special, and in a way the area already is. Shame how some plans are always ruined by the loudest voices usually coming from the least intelligent people.
