Quarantine Flag

I would not do anything to attract attention if it is not warranted. Flying the Q flag, while hardly likely to get noticed, may just get noticed by someone looking to be a nuisance. Also, if in home waters you don’t need to fly Q as you have not arrived from anywhere, I assume.

My ICOS reference book (bought March 1971 when I did my Board of Trade ticket) gives

Lima as You should stop your vessel instantly.

It does not give a variant of the hoist's meaning for In harbour, whereas P does. IMO produced a new edition of ICOS in 2005, which is presumably when the L In harbour hoist was clarified.

I claim a derogation on grounds of the efflux of time.

My 1969 Yellow Book ... the one we all carried on ship also says the same ... the 2003 version also says the same ... in fact I cannot find a written OFFICIAL amendment to clarify the L .. I'm still searching ....

But there are many online sites saying use L ..... as I linked to in my first reply.

I'm fully open to correction if it turns out not correct.

Mackerel should be eaten fresh, never frozen

That might be allright for you but the warden on Rona fills his freezer every summer and eats them with relish through the year, but then he has more neeed to be self sufficient than most, myself, I can never get the patience to let them catch up with my paravane so I really like them smoked from the smokery at Skipness.

Not even as "QL You should go astern" ?

Sure in that sense, but not in the sense of recent disease. Until I saw capnsensible's post in the scuttlebutt thread I was only aware of Q and QQ (the latter I will always remember as after having successfully answered a few flag questions in my YM exam, the examiner asked me "And what if your vessel is not healthy and you require health clearance?". At the time I did not know..)

i'm in the same situation as the op,ie we have been laying in isolation on a mooring for the last 2 weeks,no real need to go to shore for the next 3 months or so,but was wondering if leaving the harbour to jig for some mackerel to top up the deep freeze would be considered against the spirit of the lockdown?
Not sure where you are at the moment but maybe best stay put. I am in Spain and the word on the street is if you leave they may not let you back in. I have kept a low profile and been left alone, but I think with all this misery going on it would be disrespectful to go on a jolly, especially if you aren't in your native country.

the RNLI,yesterday on local radio said that all ports remain open here in the uk,and there is no restrictions on navigation, however as many marinas are closed they advised that any vessel making a passage should research their end destination before proceeding to sea,at the risk of being refused entry on arrival.

locally there seem to be quite a few power boats that head out and return with the tide every day trolling for bass,so can't really see any harm that i would be doing ,apart from depleting the fish stocks

Suspect you might when Brexit finally gets done.

You can then amuse yourself by telling your nominated flag raiser that its upside down.

It depends on how you want to define closed. They are wrong about restrictions, clearly in place, as this example shows: -

Tobermory Harbour | Tobermory | Tobermory Harbour Association
Well, technically it is open, just not to everyone. And, practically speaking, what could they do if a boat appeared and anchored in the bay? Not that this would be a sensible thing to to, of course.
