Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craftwork

Thanks for his e.mail , (or is it his grandsons) , I have sent a message to him . The lady who's grandfather used to skipper Persevere is nagging mum to find his diaries , should be useful info . Looking good eh.

Good on ya for doing something any sensible person wouldn't touch- I saw Persevere advertised for sale and was sure she'd end up with the kerosene treatment. Delighted she hasn't (yet! ;-) ). You probably have but have you looked round the Colne/Blackwater area for a place to put her? The boatyard at St Osyth owns the barge Edme, and there's plenty of mud around. I wonder if there might be a spot in Brightlingsea; there's a man who has a lighter used to get smacks in but I don't know if it'd take a barge. And there's Maldon, and Maylandsea, where there are barges and people used to working on them. I know it's a loooong way off, but there are several old barge sails in storage for sale at Lawrence's sail loft in Brightlingsea too.

WOW - puts my White Heather into the shade! as someone once said to me - you must have the heart of a lion! I salute you for your courage - The only advice I would give you is but big old tools (as in circular saws planers etc because you will be dealing with big pieces of timber - DIY tools are a waste of time) when you start a job dont be intimidated - think about it first but when you start take a very big hammer to it or a chain saw - you know what I mean - dont tickle it but hit it hard. Finally - plan the project so that can have a feel good event of some kind at regular intervals to keep your spirits up. I did wintyer work schemes and sailed her in the summer which kept me motivated .

Finally - the absolute best of luck :-)

Mike

Thanks , I'm sure some on the forum think I've lost the plot , but when SWMBO falls in love with something , it's empty wallet from there on in ,
Taking a trip to check out moorings over the weekend , so all ideas welcome , the more options I have the better
, any more ?
Cheers
Dave

Thanks , and advice taken , have been looking for the big boys tools since I bought Persevere , all advice and help very much appreciated , but IMHO , this in no way overshadows the work and love you've put into yours .
Keep the advice and info flowing
Cheers

Good point Neil, hadn't thought of that, father in law hits those quite often as well. Also , need to get together some time to talk BLOG , how are you fixed for this friday , after work , (Peterborough that day)

I have tool books comming out of my ears /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I also have hands on use of most of them and have broken all of them /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Default are crap now and Hilti have gone down hill too .
Festool is the new king of the power tool but not cheap , also look at Axminster for tools and i have the number of a tool trader if you need it .
Might be selling my planer thickneser soon cause ....well i dont like it , i also have a massive dust extractor you may find handy going for a song . But if you get a good boatyard they will have one .
Come and have a look if you like and its a good excuse to have a beer and talk about boats /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds good to me , any excuse for a pint , I'm down in Kent & Essex over the weekend so e.mail your number and if we have time to get together , well , who knows
Cheers
Dave
