Having had a boat at Littlehampton Marina they used to charge £10 contractors fee which was always added to my bill.
MDL charge £5 which again is added to my bill, As is the use of engineers laptop.
However I do not have an issue paying these charges as I trust my engineer 100% he is old school engineer and has saved me a lot of money over the years with repairs rather than replacing parts. Even if Volo Penta say non servicable parts he has serviced them to good as new. As people have said we all have a choice in engineer or marina

I really don't see what the fuss is all about.

Some contractors come on to marina sites, expect to have a parking space provided and have the use of the facilities FOC. Presumably said contractors tidy up after them selfs and remove all their waste off site and dispose of it correctly, of course not, they use the waste oil facilities provided on site together with the skips provided for berth holders and tenants of the marina to dispose of the hazardous waste they produce. A fee payable to marinas by outside contractors is entirely reasonable and should be absorbed by the contractor, after all the onsite contractors pay rent, rates and will pay to dispose of their hazardous waste.

as far as insurance is concerned when did anyone ask to see their engineers insurance docs to confirm that cover is adequate for the works being done?

I don't want to get involve with these problems as I no longer have a boat ( not fit enough).

But it has always surprised me, that folk just accept marina contracts. The law says that a contract can not contravene common law, neither can it be unfair. I was in Conway and put the boat up for sale, but was then told that the on sit agent had to sell it. So I did.

Their contract said that I could also employ another agent if I wanted, but they needed informing who it was. So I did.

The marina agent said that they would not compete with my other choice and backed out of the deal. No opportunity to change my mind.

My health was failing, so I sent my boat to Glasson Dock, British Waterways. It was close to home and we could always just use it as a country cottage. I could not believe there could be a problem there. Never heard of BW selling boats. But discovered that BW wanted 6% even if they were not used. I went through ten pages of google to find them, just a few narrow boats there. My boat would not fit on the canal, or go below the bridges. It fit in the sea basin only. I then sent the boat to Pwethelli, Wales ( yes I know it is not spelt right). It got sold there. Yes I knew I could bend rules and get away with stuff. But why should I have to. Marina contracts are all a bit iffy. It is time some one contested them.
