Portuguese residency - current situation - advice needed

The Citizen Shop. (Community Shop)

Thanks - now really interested to hear how you get on.

The Lagos Community Shop is definitely not visitor/resident friendly; demanding to see your Portuguese ID card and diverting all enquirers to the Camara (who they confide are breaking the law over temporary residency).

Are you taking a legal advisor with you?

The lady who made the appointment was very friendly. She initially said we would need a Portuguese bank account, but when I said we didn't have one yet she popped in next door then said it was OK, we wouldn't need one.

She scanned our passports then got me to photo her computer screen with the appointment details. We have back to back appointments with her next Monday.

Other people here have sailed through residency at the Citizen Shop, we will see!

It's so different everywhere isn't it - in Matosinhos (Porto area) ealier in the year I could get nowhere near getting a NIF with the Financas or the citizen shop but the Camara were incredibly friendly and helpful...

One of the few downsides of living in Portugal unfortunately. We've learnt to grin and bear it. If you don't get the answer you expect at the first office, go to another one and it will probably all be ok there. :)

Agree and always have a get out of jail card if the first port of call is boxing you into a corner.

A sudden and nasty attack of Delie-Belly, if all else fails.?

UPDATE

Catherine and I both have residency certificates after a very stress-free 20 minutes in Cascais Citizen Shop.

Excellent news. Next steps are health registration and EHIC.

Now you're not time limited, maybe spend some time around Algarve, Guadiana, SW Spain & Gib before heading to Canaries? Surprising how many decide not to move on.

Good to hear it was so straight forward. ✅

A big message for others. Did they require sight of a fiscal number❓

How is the engine going and hope the latest round of Covid restrictions are not proving too bigger impediment❓

Yes, we are planning more time in Portugal now.

How does health registration and EHIC work?

I think they issued us a fiscal number when we made the appointment. Didn't need anything except passport, address (no proof asked for) and a bank card.

Lockdown in Cascais is not too onerous at the moment. Engine fitting starts this afternoon.

Where's Stu (Beneteau) when we need him? Most of us registered at the Centro de Saude but during Covid, that's difficult. Stu emailed me the other day to say that people are applying in Portuguese successfully for health number on line to - gabutente-far@arsalgarve.min-saude.pt

Attach a copy of your resident certificate, passport and fiscal number.

We were told to apply online, attaching those documents to the email, when we went to Portimao Centre de saude for my wife's health number. They said it was taking 2 weeks - ish to get them through. So we went to Lagoa Centre de Saude instead and they did it there for us on the day.

So it's just a number, which registers you on the Portuguese health system?

What about the EHIC?

Congrats!
Much quicker than getting it in Belgium, I applied at the beginning of July, I have my Rijksregister Number but no residency card yet, we were told that it would be January at the earliest before we should expect to get it.
Correlating with others in the same position as myself it came to light that there is going to be a change in the rules in January in Belgium and a different type of card issued.

The health insurance here want details of income, bank accounts etc. etc. and one income stream I have is not counted towards income in Belgium and as that is my major income I'm having to show alternatives Oh fun oh joy
20minutes, eh?
Sigh!

Not sure what happens with those of working age but for us old farts, health care is free in Portugal.
