Hmmm.....I thought this project was to be completed for the millennium, still do you think it should be ready for 3000? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Cardiff has a new Opera house called the Millennium Center.
It looks like an enormous sheetmetal computer mouse to me totally out of place next to the renovated Victorian docks offices building.
When the council had the direction signs made to guide tourists to it from the city center they spelt the word "Millennium with an N missing."Apparently a Japanese tourist was the first one to spot it.
My spelin misteaks donet cost the tax payre a fortoon.
Remember though, that Zaha Hadid, one of the foremost architects in the world, won the competition for the original design, and then everything fell through. Then they built this new version. However, it does underpin the fact that Cardiff has held world class events for many years
The Millenium Dome and Portsmouth Spinnaker both reinforce my opinion that government organisations that have never demonstrated any ability to earn money should never be allowed to spend it!
When will the MOD purchase something that meets the requirement of the services on time and under budget. Examples please!
A lot of people thought that structures like the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel tower were a waste of time when they were first built, but wouldn't the world be a boring place if they didn't exist.
Every now and again its necessary to "waste" money on something thats apparentlu totally pointless. I bet people will think very differently about them in 100 years time.
ECC used to mean English China Clay - a name which got up the noses of certain Cornish Nationalists. Watch out, Portsmouth, our ECC was taken over by a French company called Imerys.
I'd say it was a racing certainty that the Spinnaker Tower will blow over in a hurricane in the next 15 years. IMHO the windage height & resultant leverage is enormous .. if is a NE Hurricane it should block Portmouth quite nicely for a few months
To me it's an ambitious and inspired project, even if it's late and over budget. I think it adds to the appeal of the waterfront and is bold and visually exciting.
What a load of old bollocks .. now an exciting and visually stimualting project would have been to have a large and feist blonde with huge pendulaous bosoms astride Portsmuff (sic) entrance to welcome the weary sex starved mariner home.
Ah, but you fail to recognise that the new Portsmuff tower can be seen from as far as Godalminge whereas the feisty blond is a purely local attraction...
The large and feisty blonde could be set up to emit loud and peircing screams as a guide when entering in poor visibility, the hairs of the dickisdiedoo can be aligned to deliminate small and large channels?
