Portlight Problem

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

My problem is that I am building a metal hulled boat and I have got to the stage where the boat has been sprayed and returned to my yard where I am building it but I now find that the portlights leak due to the poor design of the portlights.

I have removed the poorly designed portlights but can't find a replacement that fit the gaps that were cut out for the original portlights.

I have surfed the web and made enquiries with many companies and I have now been pointed in the direction of this forum for help.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who will make ocean quality portlights to order that I can contact to have portlights made to fit my openings, I don't want to cut the metal hull if possible as the paint job carries a guarantee and I don't want to invalidate it.

Chris

Colin Frake of Faversham and Classic Marine both offer bronze casting services as well as having off-the -shelf portlights and deadlights.
I don't think Colin Frake has a website but he advertises in Classic Boat: -www.classicmarine.co.uk.

Have just had similar discussion with our friends @ Vetus, main area of concern was that the ports sit on a flat section of hull/saloon. Question was raised as a result of problems that an old friend working on a HUGE metal vessel on the outskirts of Ipswich had. Have you tried Houdini @ Southminster. 01621773590 or Branchsound @ Burnham ( Can't find the no.) Regards Tony W.

I've not used these people personally yet, but a friend recommends them highly:~
Seaglaze Marine Windows Ltd
Wendover Rd Rackheath Norwich 01603 721770
I spoke to them @ LIBS, claim to be able to make any shape or size and prices seemed fair.

Tony,

It is interesting that you have identified the company that supplied the portlights that I have had the problem with!

My boat is a hugh metal vessel on the outskirts of Ipswich, so we are talking about the same boat here.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone else who has had problems with the company that you have referred to above.

Thanks for your reply

regards

Chris E
