The boat in front of me had a moor hen on its bathing platform . Ive been watching the family and they had six eggs hatching last weekend . This weekend there was only one left .

As i was sat on the boat i saw one of the parents go shooting past me so i had a look and the last chick had decided to go for a swim . The river was too fast for it and it floated past my boat :(

I tried to catch it but my efforts caused a bit of a dam and it started to go under so i had to let it go . I tried to grab it but i missed :(

I then started up the boat and did a search and rescue but i couldnt see it .

I'm hoping it got caught up in the tree ( i think it did ) and joined another nest but i dont know if they do that .

sometimes i just dont like nature :mad:
 
I saw a Moorhen chick in fast water a few weeks ago. It was very young and very alone as the river carried it past. I suspect the flood water had washed it from it's (too low) nest.

It is sad as you say, but that's natuaral selction at work.

The animal world is often more resilient than we give it credit for. How many people have dived in or crawled across ice to save their beloved dogs etc. only to come a cropper themselves and the dog survives!!!

I'm a lapsed angler, used to catch fairly big chub and wasted a great deal of time not catching barbel :-)

That pink lure, is it one of those rubbery job? Also, I never tried for pike because I couldn't understand what would happen to the fish if it 'escaped' with my lure and trace - becuase the trace always has a much greater b.s. than the main line.

How's that for thread drift!!!

not a rubber one, cheapest plastic one in the box, the pike swam off ok once unhooked.
