Water in the engine bearers

Drilling new holes for my mounts at the back of the engine both the mounts had what looked like wet wood in the drill bit afterwards. One of the holes expelled water like it was under pressure whilst drilling. There was metal under the fiberglass to tap into and it was nice and shiny, I managed to secure the bolts tight. Whilst thinking over the weekend about the water should I drill a big hole and have a look how bad the rot is. Boat is a cobra 850.

Generally the wood in engine bearers is a former for the glassfibre. The wood may be used to hold the bolts securely if not tapped into the glassfibre.
