Does anyone have any info on Polport dinghys for use as a tender? They seem incredibly cheap but look sturdy enough - what's the reality?

Suspect they are like unicorns, so the challenge will be to find one for real and have a look at it!

None of the photos show anything that is really suitable for a tender. The small ones look very low freeboard and flat.

The descriptions on the website are odd - and there is no indication as to whether they have a CE mark.

Indeed, they look a bit like pond boats. Not for me.

It does say they are CE marked and a 24 month warranty, in the small print. However, it also says the hulls are 1cm thick so there we go.

Their website needs a bit of work.

It's claimed for at least one:

but in view of the fractured English, the mobile phone contact number, the empty "About us" page and the confidence-uninspiring header

I am inclined to suspect that the whole thing is a scam. That's the purported UK dealers - the company seems to exist, in Poland. http://polport.pl/en/boats

Hi there,

I saw this thread while I was looking at a Polport myself. Given the limited information online, I had similar questions and concerns. I managed to get in touch with the seller by phone and talk to him about the boat, brand and suitability for my needs. I agreed to buy a Polport 390, only upon physical inspection. The seller drove 4hrs to my home address to deliver the boat, fully prepared for me to say no if the boat wasn't as expected and if it didn't have all the relevant documents.

I'm delighted to say, I purchased the boat on the spot after inspecting it. It came with CE Certificate (originally in Polish, now replaced with an English version), all the trimmings, a trailer and a rain cover. Having had the boat for over a month now I'm as happy as I was, if not more so, than the day I purchased it.

It's worth noting. Yes, the boat is manufactured in Poland and imported. Yes, the seller is Polish and his English is basic. That being said, he's a very nice guy, who made every effort to answer any concerns and make me feel comfortable with the purchase. The boat itself is brilliant. I've had countless people ask where it is from and remark on the quality of the build (from the paintwork to the sturdiness). Aesthetically the boat is very pleasing and it performs well in water. I've a 6hp Outboard on the back that is more than enough.

I wanted to share a positive experience on this thread in the interests of the seller. From a delighted buyer / owner of a Polport boat.

Joe
