Pirates get their comuppance

Hope they dangle him from the yardarm! As far as I know, piracy is still a hanging offence, and if it isn't it should be! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

One has to admire (sort of) the sheer audacity and guts of these pirates taking on a ship of this size - I wonder if they threw up grappling hooks and then shinnied up the ropes?
The container ship would most probably have been stomping along at a respectable speed, and it looks like she has considerable freeboard, hence it must have been rather difficult to just get on board in the first place.

I wonder how the pirates gained access to the accomodation block? Because the new security regulations seem to call for locked gates and doors, and I would have thought the crew would have been rather zealous about ensuring that the gates were secured while traversing that stretch of water.

Probably fearing for their lives with a bunch of machine gun weilding criminals running amok on deck in the middle of the night whilst you sit back in abject safety and "admire" them - - - shameful thoughts my friend!

Re admire, thats why I said 'sort of', but probably still the wrong word to use, sorry.

I guess the pirates must be rather desperate - or simply so stoked up that fear doesnt come into the equation - to take on a fast moving high freeboard vessel like a container ship, when a heavily laden relatively slow tanker would probably be an easier target.

In fact I am all for the various navies in the offing simply blowing any suspected pirates out of the water one time - I am thinking here about one navy ship arresting a pirate boat recently and then having to release them for 'lack of evidence' - if the navy ship had simply sunk them one time, it would have solved a lot of problems.
Do this a few times, and it would I hope send a strong message to the pirate towns ashore.

Otherwise what are the odds that the pirates will be buying (or hijacking?) helicopters next with their ransom monies?

Yes with the money they now have they could have their own S&R service with coppers etc. Except in their case it would stand for Search and Pillage. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I disagree. What they did, or do, is bloody well impressive. Just because the sum of their actions mean they are evil scum bags, I don't think it is at all bad form to admit a certain admiration for one or two of their traits.

An analogy would be Jordan, the... whatever she is. She might be a moron with a brain the size of a pea, and an overall social waste of space, but I do admire her tits.
