On a similar vein, or vain, I wonder if a grease gun with suitable (lithium?) grease should be used pump lubricant into the offending nipples. Does that have any bearing on the matter in hand?

Sounds painful... My nan used to use corn plasters... little round cotton wool things, like a polo mint, these may help.
I remember the pain from my newly pierced ear when I took my crash helmet off and the ear ring got caught in it

Bleeding nipples is a serious medical condition, with the long waiting times for ambulances and bed blocking the OP should be aware of the risks he is exposing himself to. Best not mention SEPSIS.
