Can anyone tell me the capacity of the sump on the 4108 M,
I dont have a manual and would appreciate it if anyone could let me know the correct amount of oil it should hold as i am not convinced mine has the correct dipstick .
Thanks in anticipation.

Normally between 5 and 6 litres ..... as it depends on whether you have lowline or standard sump fitted. Don't forget also that oil level will drop when you first run after changing oil - this is normal as filter and other parts fill.

Dipstick error - this is usually caused by someone changing the sump and not the stick together !! I know - I have that problem ... so I replaced the dipstick tube when it snapped off with measured length ally tube based on correct oil quantity in engine.

Quoting from the Perkins 4108m manual Handbook:

Sump Capacity:
Refill 4.5 Litres (7.9 Pt)
Total 5.3 Litres (9.4 pt)
Fill to dipstick 'Full Mark'

Depends on type fitted ....

Workshop manual says :
[ QUOTE ]

Sump capacities

Standard engines (refill) 7 Imp pts 4.2 US quarts 4 litres
Standard engines )total) 8.5 Imp pts 5.1 US quarts 4.8 litres
Low-line engines (refill) 7.9 Imp pts 4.8 US quarts 4.5 litres
Low-line engines (total) 9.4 Imp pts 5.7 US quarts 5.3 litres

Note: the above sump capacity is intended to be used as a guide and actual capacities should be governed by the level indicated on the dipstick.
When refilling the engine after an overhaul has been carried out a further 2.5 Imp pts, 1.5 US quarts, 1.4 litres approximately should be added to the capacities quoted, to allow for filling pipes, oilways filter assembly etc.

So really it's all dependent on what engine format you have. For me - using a Pela extraction gives me a direct measure of oil that is taken out. As I know my engine burns very little oil - I just add a small dollop on top of volume that is extracted out .....
