Strolling round boatyards at this time of year (saves me from wet and drying the antifouling) I've noticed that there seems to be a heirarchy when it comes to the wearing of bolier suits.

White - Only to be worn by those working on a 'proper' yacht. Wood Only.
Blue - Pristine - New boat owner
Blue - Manky (good West of Scotland word that.. bit like 'Boggin') One who can't afford to pay the yard
Black - Works in the marina - mainly on the diesel pontoon.
Purple - bought it cheap at the Lidl - colour should soon fade anyway.
Grey - Was white.

Missed any?

Obviously 'Harlequin' and 'Funky' apply only to those boiler suits that have been used to paint the eaves.

Orange.

Ex-Guantanamo Bay Al-Quaeda suspect.

According to today's paper we should be seeing a few of those around shortly. Where will they fit in the boatyard pecking order?

Re: Orange.

It will be like a fashion statement, similar to the 'I've had lunch with Ronnie Biggs'
It will be 'I've done time in Guantanamo Bay'

Think washing machines work by whirling thing around so fast that they travel back in time to before they got dirty. Then the tumbledrier works similarly by time travelling the garments back to prior to getting wet!

F.A.R.T

At one time when I was part of the Fire And Rescue Team offshore, we were issued with special flame-retardant boilersuits in orange which had a flame logo on the breast pocket. The original idea was supposed to have "F.A.R.T" on shoulder flashes, but in reality, it said "Fire & Rescue"

I've still got mine in the garage, with the history of every colour of every room for the last 10 years!

The "Normal" issue boilersuits used to shrink like hell in the platform laundry, so you always got one at least 3 sizes too big. This material hasn't shrunk at all, so I still have 3 rolls in the legs and sleeves. The crotch is halfway to my knees!
