Paris , from Solent..

I wasn’t sure which group to post this in so apologise in advance if it’s the wrong one.

I’m toying with the idea of motoring down from the Solent to the Seine and plodding away at our own pace up to around Paris.

Is this achievable? And, I really am at first stage level, what needs to be planned, booked etc?

Are there any restrictions, must haves etc etc. literally no idea at this stage so would really appreciate any real time experience while I start to to investigate..

We are planning to head that way and I have been investigating.

A massive source of info is Gordon Knights book. It's available from the Cruising Association site.
Cruising the Inland Waterways of France and Belgium

One thing you will need is a CEVNI endorsement to your ICC. I think there is a license we need to buy online also. I mention CEVNI because there is a bit of homework involved.

Just got my ICC for coastal and inland waterways last week :)
another resource I use is CanalplanAC CanalplanAC - Canal Route Planner it has a gazetteer of most of the inland waterways in the UK and Europe, it will help in finding routes from the north coast of Europe to the Med and eastwards to the Black Sea and all points in between

Merely in their 60s , now octogenarians and still boating ... and still helpfully pointing out that have not dressed my boat with the flags in the correct order.

That little boat and its crew have been up to the Baltic and down to the "Med" and one or two other European Capitals.
They, actually the lady of the vessel, did publish a little book about their adventures and mishaps.
OG would like to ask, whoever he lent his copy to, to give it back please !

Perhaps worth considering joking the Cruising Association who have a European Inland Waterways Section. I havent done the inland waterways, but they have lots of detailed guides to the waterways. Also an information event in March 2024.

Done it a few times. Nothing that difficult about it. For a single boat you will find plenty of places to stop en route. You will need to get a licence. Start from Honfleur or le havre and get the tidal bit done in one day. I usually make Rouen my next stop. Paris marina has a max air draft of ( from memory, but needs checking) 5.4m.
 
Certainly not unreasonable. The second half is straightforward, albeit winding. No decisions need be made except when to start and when to stop.

The first half is different. A decision needs to be made whether to 'Right About Wight'.... or 'Left Instead'.
