Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork.............(Southerly's in particular)

Sorry if I've ever given that impression. My view is in fact the opposite - French Plod are fantastic. Maybe you missed this post???
Maybe you have forgotten all the posts where you have accused the French authorities of exceeding their authority - but I guess when you write so much you forget what you have written.

Anyway this thread is nothing to do with France, nor anything really to with the actions of specific officials - but of course such basic facts don't stop you from trying to say it is.

A suggestion to the OP: don't worry about documents. Just invite Toad and Tranona aboard (now there's a thought!) and whenever confronted by an official, go to the pub and leave the three of 'em to sort it out.

And Timba too. Don't forget Timba. His easygoing and relaxed approach to civil servants should be guaranteed to smooth over any problems with the authorities.

I bet you won't be able to find even one post where I've accused the French authorities of exceeding their authority.

Masses. You write such tripe that you forget what you have written. that is why any thread to which you contribute goes on and on.

If you restricted yourself to contributing on subjects on which you have relevant knowledge and experience you would save yourself an enormous amount of time.

Thank you to FullCircle and RobiH who actually appear to have read the actual question I posed and taken the time to address it.

The other comments have been in equal measures amusing, boring and, sadly, not at all helpful.

I had hoped that at the very least the actual question would be read correctly, but sadly some have used this as an excuse to digress off into their pet (ty) worlds of 'prejudices, likes, dislikes, chatrooms, etc'.

So forgive me for posing it just one more time, in the (vain?) hope of avoiding further armchair expert opinion on any subject other than the question, to see if there are any remaining discerning readers out there:

Our Declaration of Conformity (see DofC NOT RCD), normally located in your owners manual somewhere towards the rear (probably in the appendices) and listing all the relevant ISO/standards of comformity, appears to be signed and dated in 2001/2 by the company MD from then, rather than by the actual MD in situ on our vessel's launch date in 2008. Do you have yours there? And, if so, are you able to offer the details of who signed and when and whether this ties in with your vessel's launch date?

And sadly, I have read the RCD and the amended guide and the RSG guidelines; they do not answer my question which in itself is quite simple and encapsulated above.

Humourous comments will still always be met with a smile; off topic is kinda boring, people!

Thanks, Rick

Then the answer to your question is Yes, That is exactly what I have for my 2001 Bavaria. It is simply a statement that your boat conforms and has a legitimate CE mark. You will find exactly the same kind of declaration on all sorts of equipment that has a CE mark.

The date is when the model of boat received its certification and it is the builder's responsibility to ensure that every example subsequently built meets the same standard. It will only change if the design changes to the extent that it needs re-certifying.

As I pointed out earlier the CE mark ceases to have any practical use once the boat is sold on the market. Any offences in relation to the standard can only be committed by the person responsible for certification - which are normally the builder, importer or dealer. The only time an owner has any responsibility is if he built the boat himself or imported it himself from outside the EEA.

That is also why I suggested there may be specific circumstances that prompted an official to see your friend's certificate. In the normal course of events there is no reason for such a request of an EEA owned boat, and if there was the page in the handbook (plus the plate if it is still there) will satisfy the request.

I may, of course be wrong but a call to the RYA or even your local Trading Standards office should get you a more authoritative answer.
