Does anyone know what’s going on with Palma anchorages? It looks like Veils has been cut in half for swim access and Portals Nous is swimming only now.

not good news I’m afraid. Looks like the government have closed off or reduced lots of anchorages. Portals Nous is a no go now, Vells has been cut in half, Palma nova reduced. I’m trying to find an online resource with all the details, but it’s not good.

Ouch, that will make portals vells a no go unless you get there at 8am.

Can't see the beach restaurants being happy with that

By the sound of it, from the locals on FB page it’s the govt wanting to restrict tourism, much in line with them removing the terraces from bars last year. This will have a big impact on the local industry.

what’s concerning is it’s not just Vells, I’m still searching for any definitive charts on what’s been cut, but the wife was in Portals this weekend and buoys marking the swim area have been moved out as far as the island, with just the channel in front of Roxy’s for a single boat or 2. I don’t know if they’ve done anything to Illetas or Palma Nova.

I don't think it's about wanting to restrict tourism. The last 2 years have shown just how screwed Majorca would be without tourism, and the various Balearic government officials keep saying they want quality tourism, ie they don't want Brits and Germans coming to the balearics solely to get pissed, which is why they have changed the all inclusive drinks rules in magaluf, arenal and San Antonio.

I expect the change in portals vells (and other areas) is a trial, and may go back to how it was next year when the beach restaurants reveal their revenue figures. Or maybe they are serious about protecting the poseidonia sea grass.

It's a shame as portals vells is a nice location, but it was starting to get silly busy in there on a weekend, and becomes a pain with people anchoring on top of each other without enough space to swing without hitting each other. we have tended to avoid it in July and August for those reasons, I guess we'll be giving it a miss even more.

Do you know if they are still allowing the trip boat to go to and from the beach restaurant in Vells?
Thats the landing pad to starboard in my photo above.
That trip boat is hugely popular - bringing customers to the beach restaurant.
I think that trippers buy a food/excursion "package".

The trip boats weren't dropping off in portals vells last summer,so I presume they're still not,but I'll have a look at some point this week.

Last year the trip boats weren't dropping off because the bay was so busy with anchored boats that they simply couldn't get in, there was not enough clear space for their stern anchors.

Were in portals vells today, it is as per the diagram further up this thread.

It's v quiet here today, the beach is virtually empty, I presume word has got around about the new swimming area.

It's actually very nice here today, nice and quiet, bizarrely no problem finding a space to anchor.

And I can confirm that the trip boats are not dropping off, one just poked it ls nose in for a look round then carried on its way.

It seems that tenders etc are not allowed to use motors in the swimming area, they're supposed to paddle/row in,but I've noticed quite a few people putting the outboard on a very slow speed and pretending to paddle in. Not sure how much longer they'll get away with that.

Just been talking to a couple on another boat that went for lunch in es repos in portals vells, they said that the owner of the restaurant has been complaining to the council about the new swimming area and lack of boats and is hoping it will get changed before July.

You've found yourself a rare day there in Vells, congrats. It's a beautiful spot, we don't visit as much in the height of summer as it gets a bit crazy, and too many people empty their tanks. I do hope the restaurant manages to get his voice heard though. This is what they have done to Portnal Nous/Illetas.
