Hi all,
can anyone tell me if there are visitors buoys in Paglesham. Some years ago we had a few nights on the boatyard buoys, but cant find details anymore.

Thanks in anticipation

Last I heard was that the new owners were very anti visitors. I don't think you can visit anymore. Would be interested to hear otherwise.

I'd suggest you contact the Roach Sailing Association (see their website) and ask, they will help you if they can. They manage many of the moorings at Paglesham.

Good advice above. The last time I visited I just asked someone on their mooring which of the Association buoys were available. It is not obvious which buoys belong to the Association and which to the boatyard. If you go ashore the boatyard will charge if you use one of their buoys and if you are on an Association buoy they will charge you for landing! They were not friendly and obviously did not want visitors. I've stopped visiting until I hear the situation has improved.

Just upstream of the yard there's a short stretch of shoreline managed by the RSA, as described in the latest ECP, including a short jetty and the RSA are happy for you to land there.

I have to say I had a similar experience on my last visit 3 years ago. The yard people were hostile and the pub not much better. A RSA member on a mooring was very helpful though. There was a landing pontoon installed in Pagesham Pool to by-pass the yard, is that still there?

Just had a look at Google images. The only plank of wood I can see upstream of the main Paglesham pontoon is this one. Is this the one you refer to Cantata? If so, can you still get to the pub without walking through the boatyard?

I believe that the seawall in both directions and the lane that leads from the seawall up to the Plough & Sail and East End Paglesham are marked on OS maps as Footpaths. No one can stop you using a public right of way, therefore I believe you would have every right to walk up to the pub along the lane, which passes through the yard and ends at the seawall.

Just to add, CLB, the wooden walkway I referred to is in Paglesham Pool.
What you have shown on Google Earth is the jetty I mentioned in the area of foreshore managed by the RSA..

Might I ask, who now owns the Boatyard and what Business are they engaged in ?

Is it actually Boatyard business ?

Most interested in this strange affair, thank you

Are there any plans afoot to sell Yard for Housing etc ?

Intimidating public on a legal footpath or interfering with rights of way get my 'back up'

The remains of 'borrow' (oyster) pits? There are/were lots of these up Brightlingsea Creek (some have been filled with dredged silt recently).
