I had a petrol leak this year and have decided to renew all the fuel lines . The hose clips are the type you squeeze with your fingers and slide off down the hose. The leak was caused by one of these clips cutting into the hose. Instead of using the metal clips, I thought of using cable ties of a suitable size to avoid cutting in. Is there any reason for hose clips to be metal ? Perhaps to do with heat from the engine ? There is not much room to use jubilee clips. TIA

Probably work, but technically almost certainly not approved or advised. Hate to be that guy…but should the worst happen, any investigation or examination afterwards, wouldn’t think too highly of the idea upon seeing such a thing.
Totally know where you are coming from though. They can bite into the hose after years.
I’ve used stainless jubilee clips before, but the same thoughts on nipping the hose comes to mind.

The fuel hose clamps in my Evinrude are in fact small cable ties. (Original fitting)

I avoid worm drive hose clamps on small hoses preferring "mini hose clamps" or occasionally plastic (Nylon ??) "Snapper" clips

From the parts list

The clamps on the fuel line from the tank were metal clamps like this

A Snapper clip
