Our daughters just bought a boat; should I be worried.

Got to find a way of removing the old names. She’s being renamed ‘Eowyn’. (Don’t ask!)
It does not matter whether it is paint or vinyl letters, they will have left a change in colour of the gel coat. For paint, gently sand off the paint. For vinyl, carefully use a hot air gun to soften the adhesive and used a scrapper or wide chisel to remove. Then compound the area before polishing. Lots of details in this PowerPoint presentation I made earlier this year on restoring gel coat. It would be worth getting your daughter to view it so she knows what to do (or have your arm twisted to do it for her). All the smooth areas of the hull and deck would probably look a lot better with a high shine. Your daughter has to learn she is now the PBO (poor bloody owner).

Miss Bendyone has just taken delivery of an old Macwester 26, now ashore in Plymouth for a clean up. It will also give me a boat to play with as ours is in France out of bounds at the moment.

Welcome to the club! My heart sank when youngest son came home and said he had bought a Westerly GK24 (£100) it just needed a 'little work'. All credit 8 months later she was launched and on her way to the Isle of Man. He had worked about 20 hours a week on her over winter staying on board!!2011_0624Dreamer paint 1.jpgIOM dreamer 1st visit paint 2.jpgIOM dreamer 1st visit paint 2.jpg2011_0624Dreamer paint 1.jpgIOM dreamer 1st visit paint 2.jpg2011_0624Dreamer paint 1.jpgIOM dreamer 1st visit paint 2.jpg

Is this boating thing hereditary? Our twenty something old daughter has only just gone and bought a boat at auction. It's a little Pandora 700 and I went to see it for her the other day. On a fairly decent trailer with an Evenrude 7.5 but sans propellor. The sails are slightly not new but very servicable and it';s got an 'A' frame built onto the foredeck for raising and lowering the Mast. She's just paid and we're going to collect it on Friday. I've promised she can use our spare mooring at Saltash if she wants. For a new boat present, we can't decide whether to buy her a new propellor (not much use if the engine doesn't't work and is scrap) or an Admiralty small chart folio of the West Country etc?

Is there any cure. Is there any hope.

What's worse is that she's also started quoting bits of YBW on Pandora's to me.
What a tight old git you are lol..how kind of you to lend her your spare mooring....and it must very difficult deciding weather to buy her a small prop or not..how do you manage to sleep at night..

Salty, you can still edit your post to remove the excess photos - and I think you can still click on 'preview' while in edit mode to see what it looks like before saving it again.

I used to crew on a GK 24 called 'Maybee' out of Marchwood Sailing Club on Southampton Water in the mid 80's - we did summer and winter series, and she was a wonderful boat to race on.

Bajan - How do you edit a post? Sorry I still use paper charts and pencil - but have graduated from parallel rules to a Breton Plotter!!
I only sailed the GK once, delivering her from Cumbria to Port Glasgow when Son sold her - FANTASTIC! Force 5 beam reach across the Irish Sea, light airs up the Clyde - such a joy to sail.

Ooops, my apologies Salty - I think that you can only edit a post for a fairly limited time afterwards, and then the window is closed.

For example, I cannot now edit my previous post above, written on Sunday evening, but I will be able to edit this post for a while after I hit the 'post reply' button - there will be an 'edit' button on the bottom left hand side.

It is 30+ years now since I sailed on a GK 24, and I have fond memories - we used to go cruising as well, including one memorable booze cruise to Cherbourg one May bank holiday weekend.
