Hi All,

Long time reader and first time poster here. Pleasure to be here amongst such knowledgeable and experienced folks.

I live in Reading and am planning to buy an open day boat/sloop (Corsiva, Oud Huijzer or Admiral- sold by different reputable marine dealers nearby) and could not see these being discussed much on YBW. Anyone owned one or have insight which you can share (handling, maintenance, pros/cons etc.)? Corsiva seems to be the most popular of these 3 as I have seen many of them between Wargrave and Hambledon but yet to come across an Oud Huijzer or an Admiral.

From specs and price perspective, all 3 are more or less in the same range but what has been disappointing so far is dealing with the marine dealers. One was helpful when I visited them personally but follow-up emails have been quite contradicting to initial information provided. Second felt in a rush when I called and follow-up email was replied after 2 weeks with a one liner asking me to choose from boats in stock; and the third is only interested in selling me cabin cruisers. All of this despite being in the market to buy a brand new boat. :(

On the contrary, dealers in Netherlands have been very forthcoming. I am not an expert but reckon buying from EU would have its own implications which I rather avoid.

Any thoughts are welcome.

PS- I am very new to boating and have been using a 3.2m SIB on the Thames non-tidal part. Needed something more practical, comfortable and safe (for 20 months old son) hence the upgrade.

Funny you should say that....I am also in the market for a similar thing for next season. I am in the 'trade' although at the other end of the scale and have been shocked at some of the marinas I visited, one of which I started my career at!

The best one yet (near Walton Bridge...) told me to look online!!! I made the trip TO the marina / showroom ffs!!!

Interboat is my favourite but not may favourite price, if you have the enthusiasm then the Netherlands would be a great option.

For the first time ever (having worked nearly 25 of them) I am going as a punter to Southampton Boat Show to have a nose around, I am also working at Cannes yacht show so also plan to look at the open boat alternatives.

I had a look at the Trad Boat Rally but only a couple stood out.

Val Wyatt had the one I wanted but travel and commitments have so far got it eh way of viewing her and now she is under offer (Interboat 17)

I plan to keep mine in Teddington.

Be interested to see how you get on?

Thanks @Time Out. I am visiting the Southampton Boat Show as well to check the day boats although the show's website does not seem to have an encouraging line up.

Interboat, Antaris and Maril are all very nice boats but their Tenders are quite expensive for a new boater like me. Sloops are affordable but prefer Tenders more.

I live just 6 minutes away from Val Wyatt and have visited them quite a few times. Nice people and passionate about Interboats but I don't think they update their website too often as some of their used boats on sale have actually been sold when I visited them last. There is an Interboat 20 currently for sale around £25k though.

Netherlands is an attractive option with an added benefit of approximately £5k saving but could be a logistical nightmare and I am not sure what taxes will I have to pay, if any.

I've been looking abroad too. It does seem ridiculous with such a poor exchange rate at the moment that boats there are still 10-20% cheaper!!

Re Val Wyatt website, yes it’s not 100% up to date but I registered my serious interest and I received an email about the one that’s now under offer before it hit the market proper. Which in fairness is standard practice, well it should be ! That said there’s a reason why it’s under offer so soon. Great boat prepped by them and email and pix sent once she was tip top.

If I could have made it to the yard I would be 17k lighter ....

Southampton website will never have what’s on show but there will be a wide and varied selection of open boats such as this. More so now London boat show is dead.

Now let me start looking at Düsseldorf flights ! There are many in show there in Jan.

I know of a Cooper 745 Dutch Open Day Boat / Sloop that will shortly be for sale on the Thames (private sale). I believe it's about 6 years old and well maintained. I think it's the actual review boat used by MBY. Plenty of reviews and info about these boats online.

Similar one for sale here from a Dutch Brokerage for comparison

PM me if you want the contact details for the vendor.
