What do I do with them ?

Over the years as I have replaced sails I have kept the old ones just in case ... As they are now left in the garage the 'just in case' is not now relevant ! They are mainly headsails that have been replaced by a furling system. Do schools or Scouts take them. Some are possibly in reasonable nick & others are knackered, so any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

If you have the time put them on ebay, just a photo and sizes would be enough.

I dont like ebay that much but im amazed all the stuff that goes from there and the amount it makes!
You can set it up so they pay for the postage and the collection and the money comes to you before all that.

steve

ps i dont work for them

You could take the smallest and flattest headsail and use it on the backstay as a riding sail when at anchor. In many boats that dramatically improves the way the boat lies.

List the sizes on the 'For Sale' forum. If you just want to get rid offer them 'free to collect' and 'cost of postage' if shipped. There's lots of us poor folk who might be glad of them.

Peter,

Cut into the right shapes, they make great hammocks when strung between trees!

Also, don't sell them all, keep one, cut out a few useful shapes, and keep them on-board along with a sailmakers palm, needle and some sailmaking thread....

I have turned an old Genoa into an awning over the patio. I have enough left over for a hammock in the garden.
I also thought about making a boom tent for the boat.....
Alternatively I wonder if Sea Teach would offer something as they sell lots of used sails.
I also agree that you should list the measurements or the boat they are from and post on the for sale board........

Hello Pete try to sell them by all means however if you have a sewing machine available you can get a lot of pleasure and fun cutting up the lighter cloth (genoa) sails to make ... grab bag, tool roll, winch cover, tiller cover, sail cover, awning, hammock. Just use ordinary sewing thread and needle make loops of cloth instead of eyelets. give it a try. it might not look perfect but it is fun to DIY. regards will

You could cut the top off and make it into one of those triangular MOB recovery thingies. I think the commercially produced and exorbitantly priced original is called a "Tribuckle". It would probably need some webbing along what used to be the Leech to improve it's strength and along the cut edge you would need to sew in some rope or webbing with which to attach it to the toerail/stanchion bases.

There's a shop in St Malo that turns them into bags and things - very attractive too. Dunno if they'll buy them off you, though.
