I remember reading in a post some time back that a good maintenance procedure annualy is to put an amount of oil in the heads to keep them lubricated. Is this true? is so what sort, how much and is this true for both manual and electric types?

Don\'t!...

In a moment of weakness, an otherwise sensible IPC journalist once suggested putting oil down the sea toilet. Don't ever do this. Remember that we're all trying to protect the environment. I've never ever put oil down the heads, and I've never had a problem with it. Just flush it with copious amounts of sea water.

Re: Don\'t!...Olive Oil?

We use a small amount of olive oil occasionally to lubricate the (manual) pump piston and valve systems - the pump stops squeaking, it works and is it really harmful?

Martin, that was me mate that gave the advice that once or twice a year a teaspoonful of Olive Oil or Vegetable cooking oil does wonders for your Pooper. I still stand by that.
