I bought an Ocean Signal rescue me PLB for £240 from force 4. With a 7 year lifespan I think its a lot of safety for about £35/year.

Unlike the EPIRB you can legally use the PLB on a different boat or even ashore if you go hill walking or whatever.
I just ordered one for £219 here Ocean Signal RescueMe PLB1

Seems silly not to join the 21st century for 60 pence a week... It was this picture that sold it to me. I just hope the model didn't have massive hands.

All you need now is an efficient online registry. Rescue services have stated that registration may result in action being taken sooner.
I would pay a fiver for immediate, guaranteed registration. Come on Ofcom, get your ass in gear.

Its already there for ships radios but I just checked my Ofcom licensing portal and sure enough they haven't added another line for PLBs or EPIRBS. 10 minutes work surely. But maybe there is a reason we don't know about or it's "due to the effects of the coronavirus"

Mine came with a pre -printed form to post to Falmouth, then the Email arrived explaining a 20 week wait. I think you eventually get a sticker to attach to the unit.
It is indeed small and very light.

Just received my PLB1 and found it says Made in the UK on it. I checked their website again and there is no mention of this anywhere that I can find. I'm very pleased but actually a bit angry that they don't make that known to potential buyers. I put so much effort into trying to buy british but the british manufacturers can't be bothered to help me do it.

I also have the mini PLB1 and as I planned some adventures in the Atacama Desert, I registered it for multi use rather than just sailing on the basis that I could summon help wherever in the world I was. There are some tick boxes for hiking/kayaking etc as well as sailing.

20 weeks! Strange though as I entered all the info on an electronic form you'd think that would all just go straight into a database and I'd be registered. Maybe have someone read it first taking 5 minutes. But its due to covid of course.
