Brilliant, thank you, I shall post a few more times but also look at resizer.
1st night on the boat (I hadn't planned to) but was comfy enough. Been sitting on deck with a cuppa.

We're looking to buy a Westerly33/Pentland ketch/bilge keeler in the next year or so but hoping possibly to be able to afford a Conway so will be looking forwards to reading how you're getting on with yours.

Yeah.. it was like... "Should I do this".... "Oh look, just the ideal boat has popped up."

My 2 sailing friends were wetting there pants over it. "I don't think Si really knows what he has bought there".... "It's marvelous..."
Life is short.. I have been tired of not having any adventures... This seems like a good adventure to have..

I think there is a spinnaker in a locker. but no boom (no idea if I have that right)...
Maybe one day I might need that. But I think 3 sails to play with is quite enough..
Of course it's a "pole"... Lazy guys, lazy sheet, etc etc etc.. bloomin lot to remember..

I see you have a CQR anchor. When your boat was built these were everywhere and considered perfectly acceptable, but then again so was asbestos, Austin Allegros, and casual sexism. Better choices available today

Yeah, smaller CQR and a "Danforth" included.
The Ultra Marine is on the shopping list, but just not yet.. let's get sailing first..
Of course any sensible priced upgrades are worth a look as it seems having a couple of different types can be beneficial.. (and to how to attach them)

People get a bit obsessed with changing CQRs to something better. In terms of priorities it’s probably not that urgent - I doubt the OP is planning to be riding out gales in dodgy holding just yet. I also suspect part of the reason people who upgrade report better holding is they honed their skills on the CQR and don’t make rookie mistakes with the next gen anchor. Like asbestos sometimes it’s best left where it is until you know what you are doing! And like an allegro - if you were buying new today you wouldn’t pick one but if the mission is to get to the shops, diverting to buy a new car first would be a bit pointless.Nice looking boat.

3 yrs ago I got similar advice, and we will likely replace the CQR but it’s been on the boat for 20 yrs and done a perfectly decent job - meanwhile there are upgrades which make the boat better day-to-day or replacements required as stuff wears out.

I would add a socket set and eventually a cordless drill. Depending upon the age of the boat it may well have imperial bolts so a socket set that does metric and imperial is worthwhile.

Yeah, I will asses the condition of the tools and usefulness. I had brought down some kit to leave on the boat, Inc a socket set..
But it was great to "unwrap" it...
There are some key maint jobs to do before it can go out for a sail.. so it will be at least a couple of months before I do.. (I can't be there every weekend, so plans in place).
Funds will only be spent on what NEEDS to be done at present.
