UKHO Permanent/Temporary/Preliminary Notices
1. ENGLAND - South Coast - Depths - Six reductions of depth in the approaches to the new tidal marina in Dover Harbour.
2. NETHERLANDS - Buoy. - One new lit North Cardinal buoy installed temporarily on the north Dutch coast of the approaches to Westershelde. An unlit north cardinal buoy is just to the east.
Local Notices
1. Trinity House - CROMER LIGHTHOUSE - Latitude 52° 55.482’N., Longitude 001° 18.990’E. - Due to essential maintenance, from 15th May 2023, the nominal range of the main light will be reduced to 18 nautical miles, until further notice. All other characteristics to remain unaltered.
2. RIVER THAMES - HALFWAY REACH - DREDGING OPERATIONS - On or about the 18th May 2023, the dredger BORR will commence water injection dredging at Cemex Dagenham. Dredging will take place on the ebb tide only, with an expected completion around the 31st May 2023. The chartlet Indicates the approximate footprint of the works. The dredge vessel should display lights and signals as per the International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea (27).
Requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed will be made by London VTS on VHF Ch.14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. During times where this is applicable, the vessels involved in the operation should display ‘RY’ signals. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14.

RIVER THAMES - BUGSBYS REACH - LONDON CABLE CAR EXERCISE AND EXCLUSION ZONE - On Thursday 11th May 2023 a training exercise will be undertaken at the London Cable Car in Bugsby’s Reach between the hours of 23:00 and 04:00. Throughout this exercise a temporary exclusion zone will be in force as depicted on the chartlet. Owners and operators are reminded that no manned vessels other than vessels involved in the exercise and emergency services responding to an incident are permitted within the exclusion zone. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed may be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY) displayed. Vessels and craft involved in the exercise will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 14. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14.
4 RIVER THAMES - LIMEHOUSE REACH - CANARY WHARF PIER - MAINTENANCE WORKS - On or about Monday 15th May 2023, marine contractors working on behalf of Canary Wharf Management will be undertaking maintenance works on Canary Wharf Pier which are expected to take about three-weeks. To support these works pontoons will be moored in various locations around the pier, however, services using the pier will not be obstructed. Contractors will be working Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:00 to 17:00; Saturday and Sunday working hours will be 07:00 to 15:00. However, the pontoons will be moored alongside 24/7. The SS PIONEER will be on station during working hours and maintain a watch on VHF Channel 14. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s (PLA) Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY) displayed. River users should be aware that pontoons and workers will be located on the inside of the pier and therefore not visible. Masters of passing vessels should have due regard for the effects of their wash including the possibility of rebound from the river wall and the combined effect of wash from other vessels. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14 as required.
5. Harwich Haven - Dredging Operations – Tristao da Cunha - Mariners are advised that on or about 01 May 2023 the trailing suction hopper dredger Tristao da Cunha (IMO: 9823493) will commence maintenance dredging in the Harwich Haven around the Port of Felixstowe berths, for a period of approximately 7 days. Materials will be disposed of at the Inner Gabbard. Detailed dredger movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71. Lights and shapes as required by Collision Regulations will be exhibited and a listening watch on VHF Channel 71 will be maintained throughout.
6. Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project: Boulder removal operations with tug: From around 3 May 2023, for a period of about three weeks, the tug, Till (IMO no. 9487029), will be carrying out boulder removal operations in the Harbour areas A and B1 (See diagram HHA: A/B1). The dredging contractor is the Boskalis Westminster / Van Oord Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project.
The vessel will be operating across the harbour area by dragging a chain and wire fishing net across the seabed to catch loose boulders and will be disposing of them immediately alongside the backhoe dredger, Goliath. The Goliath will load the boulders for disposal at sea into the split-hopper barges Pieter Caland and Cornelis Lely (see local notice to mariners 26-2023 [next one]). The split-hopper barges, Pieter Caland and Cornelis Lely, will be disposing of material in the Inner Gabbard East disposal site. For detailed information regarding the location of the dredging plant, please contact Harwich VTS or listen to the daily Channel Deepening VHF broadcasts. All vessels are subject to Harwich VTS Traffic Organisation. Given the increased frequency of vessel movements and dredging operations mariners are reminded of the importance of regulated vessel reporting requirements and necessity to maintain a listening watch on channel 71 and good all-around lookout. Well worth looking at the chartlet!

Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project: Dredging with backhoe dredger Goliath and Barges: From around 1 May 2023, for a period of about three weeks, the backhoe dredger Goliath (IMO number: 8342260) will be dredging in the Harbour together with the self-powered, split-hopper barges, Pieter Caland (IMO number: 9516662) and Cornelis Lely: (IMO number: 9516674). The dredger will be supported by either the tug, Duchess (IMO number: 9928944) or Till (IMO number: 9487029). The dredging contractor is the Boskalis Westminster / Van Oord Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. The dredger will be operating in a number of locations in the Harbour, generally close to the toe line between the Babergh, College and Shotley Spit Buoys. (See diagram HHA: A). For detailed information regarding the location of the dredging plant, please contact Harwich VTS or listen to the daily Channel Deepening VHF broadcasts. The backhoe dredger is located with three spud legs and will excavate strips along the channel, loading material into a split-hopper barge moored alongside. When full, these barges will sail to the
Inner Gabbard East disposal site and discharge. If required, the backhoe dredger will move out of the dredge area to facilitate passing vessels and will wait outside the channel or in the Platters anchorage. Moves out of the channel or between cuts, will be assisted by one of the two tugs. The split-hopper barges, the Pieter Caland and Cornelis Lely, will be disposing material in the Inner Gabbard East disposal site. All vessels are subject to Harwich VTS Traffic Organisation.
8. River Medway - Saltpan Reach - BP IOG. No1 Jetty - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place at BP Isle of Grain No.1 jetty, dredging will commence on or around 01/05/2023 and is expected to be complete on or around 10/05/2023. Operations will be focussed around the “berthing box” and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Maas’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. ‘Maas’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times.
9. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - LPS loss of CCTV coverage - Mariners are hereby advised that on 27/04/2023 and 12/05/2023 from 18:00 for a period of up to 6 hours there will be a loss of CCTV coverage in the below areas:
• Berth 6 • Berth 10 • Breydon Bridge • Haven Bridge • Atlas • East Quay • Bollard Quay • Pilot Station Vessels navigating within the River Port should proceed with extra caution and maintain regular communications with LPS on VHF ch12 callsign “Yarmouth Radio”.
