I should have reported that a ketch has sunk on a mooring in Mersea Quarters. Fortunately she is still largely upright so the two masts are still obvious at HW. Could be scary in the dark but I am told that a light has been put on her. Lifting her is going to be a real problem as she is probably 25 tons at least... and of course filling.

Thanks for adding, Roger. The social cesspit 'Mersea Locals' has been on fire about this, so I'm told (I removed myself in 2016 after the pointy-heads shouted the loudest about the upcoming benefits of Brexit). The twattish comments under the picture of the sunken vessel almost exclusively ignore some poor soul's tragedy.

Addendum - I stand corrected, the chatter forum with the pictures and comments on the sinking is not the one mentioned above, but surprisingly a rather higher brow local village pump.

I don't do social media BD, beyond this forum so I haven't seen the accompanied comments. It's a sad bit of business for all concerned. Having spoken to the RNLI it is possible to conclude that the owner has lost a lot of personal possessions. The Lifeboat towed her in because of engine failure, she was safe on the mooring and there was no expectation of sinking. That has been an entirely separate matter.
