Northern Cyprus (TRNC)

We are planning a trip over there later in the year, one of the main reasons being the supposedly cheap fuel and alcohol over there so we can stock up for winter.

Does anyone have up to date (this summer) prices for diesel, wine and spirits and beer so we can be sure that it is actually going to be worth us making the trip?

We already know that Karpaz Gate is in the middle of nowhere and is fairly expensive so we intend going to Girne for shopping and will then visit other areas as weather and circumstances permit.

Once upon a time, Cyprus (EU) did not permit entry to those coming from TRNC.

I don't know whether this is still the case, nor whether there's a neat way of evading the issue. Any experience out there?

My ten year old method was to do the south first, then north. But the place was chronically short of berths then.

Prices then were Turkey, plus a small premium, but I didn't refuel.

Wine, beer and spirits are very cheap. You can get Duty Free Fuel but I believe there is a minimum quantity. If you contact Delta Marina (Girne) they will advise.

Do not go to Southern Cyprus direct from TRNC. You need to go back via Turkey. They still get nasty in the South.

I am well aware of the problems of going between TRNC and S Cyprus. Normal advice is not to let TRNC police / customs stamp your actual passport - they will give you a stamped entry paper that you can keep in your passport and then they stamp it when you leave, that way your actual pasport shows no entry or departure to TRNC. The TRNC officials are well aware of the problems and this entry paper method is pretty much routine, although you probably still need to on the ball to ensure it actually happens.

Thanks for the link to Delta Marine, we were planning on using the marina at least for a couple of nights.

We were in Delta Marine, Girne in in late June and the price of motorin diesel was 3.25TL per litre with a service fee of 25TL on top. Marina prices were around 80 Euro per night(12 metre cat) with Karpaz offering pay 2 days get 1 free. Spirits can be bought duty free at any number of shops down town but we felt that beer and wine was cheaper in Greece.
