Non boaty power saw question

I recently changed the Bosch router in my table for a Triton one and am very pleased with it, anyone building or buying a router table I would highly recommend using a Triton TRA001.

Yes they're good but I keep meaning to remove the switch interlock to avoid having to reach under the table when changing cutters. I've powered it via a NVR mounted on the table so it's safe enough.

I like it for being able to bring the cutter up through the table to change cutters plus being able to adjust hight from above the table with a handle.

Whilst I realise Faithful tools aren’t especially high quality I was appalled at how out of square their squares were when I bought one recently.

You will see a Marples workshop square and an engineers square which is very old and true I periodically use it to check the Marples square which despite some abuse (I left it outside overnight once hence the discolouration) it is still true both inside and outside which is not always the case.

Another way to check a square is to scribe a line across from a straight edge with the stock of the square to the left, then repeat with the stock to the right. If the lines coincide, or are parallel., the square is true.

A lot of these power tools are pricey but you do get a repeatable better quality finish with a quality tool.
The way to do it on a budget is to look for what you want on fb market place as you can buy quality far cheaper than cheap and nasty new.
I recently picked up a hitachi circular saw that has to be one of the nicest I've used. It had a new blade and a spare all for £20 !
Also got a ¼" bosch router in lovely condition for £10.
My makita mitre saw set me back nearly £700 many years ago but can now be bought used for as little as £120.

Not come across the make but I don't buy many hand tools nowadays my hand planes are old vintage Stanley ones and are very good. To get equivalent maybe marginally better you would be looking at spending a couple of hundred pounds or more on a Veritas or Rider or even more on other makes.

To be fair I suppose it could be done with a track saw, I have on occasions cut or trued up by taking a thin (1mm) cut off edges of plywood carcasses.
Without wishing to ya know ,old dogs and choppy tricks, a second end grain block clamped up against the first ‘ end for end’ will allow a tenon saw to make very fine adjustments indeed ie half its kerf

Back to the OP
A compound mitre saw for what he says he wants to do around his house , would be a very good initial purchase
