When I fitted a new heads to our Vega last year I did not fit an anti-syphon loop - instead I raised the heads compartment sole by 3" and installed an outlet pipe approx. 2" long. This was on the advice of another Vega owner.
I did not fit an anti-syphon loop on the inlet side either.
After 2000 + miles of sailing with both seacocks left open I have the following observations to make:
- There is NO smell in our heads
- The bowl has NEVER filled up above about 2" of water, even after dozens of continuous miles heeled right over on the starboard tack (heads is on stbd side)
We have sailed in all conditions and never had a problem. I believe that pumping ones' s..t uphill round a metre or more of usually corrugated tubing is asking for stinky troubles . . .
Now tell me we're going to die . . .
