They can only charge if you use one of their moorings. Anchoring is FOC.

They do ask nicely for a donation though. We don’t mind that, a fiver or so seems appropriate.

The car's in for a service on Tuesday, but I'm thinking of heading that way next week. I home they'll have gone back to work by then. Worst case, with a 75cm draft, I can always find a spot up in the top left corner.

We were there for lunch yesterday (Bank Holiday Monday), only about 6 boats there when we left about 4pm. I guess the weather was pretty awful but surprised it was so quiet.

I'd guess 30 odd boats Tuesday and today.Harbour warden was out and about. At last a couple of decent days strung together.

The Newtown River is a beautiful place to visit to moor or anchor. Please be as generous as you can afford to be when you enjoy this glorious reserve protected by the National Trust. Even as a member we should make a worthwhile donation.
We all know how much we get charged in harbours and marinas so please contribute generously so that we can continue to enjoy the freedom to anchor.

How does paying the NT give freedom to anchor ?
Being a NT member I can park my car in their carparks 'foc' why not my boat. I'm surprised as well that the 'HM' doesn't have a machine to scan membership cards so that they could get some extra money from NT HQ, which is how the carparks work.

Many times have I felt myself out of step with the National Trust and yet…I have never felt aggrieved to hand over a few pounds to use their moorings in Newtown Creek.

I was there overnight on the way to Cornwall before a Biscay crossing. I have to say that as ever it was beautiful and magical and the wails of seals made me smile. If the NT ask for funds to keep the creek and the surrounds in good nick then I'm always happy to help. I have to say though there was a lot of weed this year - I had to spend an hour getting it off my rudders, drive legs and anchor chain .

The national trust don’t own the creek, they don’t own the quay they moor there boat on either.
As for the national trust it depends if you agree with there politics:

This probably the view I would align with.

I have sailed in and out of Newtown many times buy once I lost the ability to take the ground I sailed on passed in the summer atleast.

There is something odd about it they own allot of the land around it but they don’t own the actual creek as I recall. Hence they can only ask for donations for anchoring, chat with the boat yard at shallfleet they might fill you in more.

Looks like the majority of land is leasehold.
I'm OK with the NT having stewardship as they keep it open to the public. There is no access to the privately owned land around the creek.
