Can anyone recommend some boats that I should look at?

I have about £8,000 (cant get any more from girlfriend)
We'd ideally like the following.

spinnaker/cooker/inboard eng/seperate fore cabin/sea toilet

twin/lifting keel (I'd be sailing essex east coast) (comments welcome)

We'd like a reasonably fast boat as opposed to caravan.

Experience wise.
I've been racing dinghies competitively and pretty successfully for about 27 years.
I am a senior dinghy instructor.
I have raced a couple of big boats (cant remember what they were) for people.
Been on a couple of flotilla hols.
Charter twice in the uk to sail in the solent.

Girlfriend has couple of seasons crewing exp in dinghies and yachts.

any thoughts appreciated.

...very similar background to me. We bought last year. We started looking in the £6-8k range and ended up (as I believe everyone does) spending a lot more. Start looking early and look at loads of boats. There are plenty of good places to look such as Clark & Carter (Levington & Burnham), Westwater (Walton), Woodrolfe (Tollesbury) where you can have a look at a number of boats at a time. That will help settle your ideas. We started to look for a Sonata, because I wanted reasonable performance but got warned off because of their general hard racing life, looked at Robbers (loads of space per £ but ex racers), and then spread the net wider.

Also start to think about where you intend to moor theboat. Lots of places on the Essex Coast are full with waiting lists (Brightlingsea, Marinas etc), so that may affect your choice, depending on the moorings/berths available and where you want to be.

small hurleys, westerleys, hunters or a corribbee
the bilge keels like the westerly windrush tend not to be quick but if you get say hunter medina (lift keel i think) or a pandora (fixed) they are quicker
best thing to do is try a few
do a search on boats for sale nad look at boats for sale i n your region as they will most likely be suited to the conditions

Add to other suggestions Trident 24 (fin, lifting or triple), Westerly Pageant (twin keel), Macwester 26, Snapdragon 24 or 26 (both twin keel). Others may come to mind later....

Try looking at an Anderson 24 which will fit all your requirements. Sails nicely, hsa a lifting keel and enough space to cruise in relative comfort.

his first requirement was a SPINNAKER this man wants to go sailing.he will put-up with those slight discomforts below to go sailing, forget the bilge keelers ( ok to stand in the boatyard only)
Hunter Sonata
" " Delta
" " Impala ( would need attention for your price bracket)
Robber they made a racing + cruising versions
E-Boat Julian Everitt design
Achillese 24
Pandora 22
Invictor 26 ( might be too expensive but good seaboat to get you foriegn)
good luck

Hi Tony,
We bought an E Boat in December, so next time you're over visiting your old man give us a shout and you can come out and give it a go. As you probably know it's got very little headroom but still quite roomy as it's very beamy. They seem to change hands for between 4k & 6k.
Cheers
Fraser

Also consider the Jaguar 25, lots around, usually bilge keel with either an inboard or outboard, look on the Jaguar website:-
