I bet you're going to ask me for exact size! I don't know. But, anyone any idea how much two new props for a Squadron 50 would cost?

One blade of one prop, on leading edge has corroded. Believed to be old, perhaps when anodes weren't replaced. Prop scraped back and is brass and not pink. Still achieved 29kt over three runs.

Corrosion doesn't happen on its own.
It is the product of electrolysis.
Yes, it could have been lack of anode in the past but could also be other parts of the galvanic circuit.
For example, there are often shaft brushes that complete the galvanic circuit between the shafts/props and the ship's earth connected to the main hull anodes.
Some installations add an anode to the shaft - personally, I can't see the point of shaft anodes - I would prefer a full electrical circuit.
Shaft anodes just seem wrong to me but maybe they are ok in a system without shaft brushes.

the reason I asked was because we had a similar problem on the first boat (similar size) that we bought and it WAS the brushes - completely knackered.
I bought new props (about £2500 from memory for the pair - 13 years ago) and then I took my time having the old ones reworked.
I tried a couple of places - the people who did a good job in the end were Hamble Props - cost around £500 to refurbish/repair both.

Hope that helps

Anything else some out of the survey?

Yes and not just from the survey but bleedin obvious to someone with my low level of knowledge. All sortable and to be sorted, retested an of course agreed. I won't go into detail on here but provided we can get the issues sorted it's looking pretty positive. Engines seemed sweet started easily, no cavitation or other issues there but I will get them serviced inc. oil change as has been a few years since, even if she has done low hours since last service. I was surprised at how a big boat like that could be so nippy. Deffo needs antifouling.

Wood inside quite badly faded in areas and a small stain to Cherrywood from old leak but I spotted this months ago when I first viewed. I don't have a problem with this as she's an older boat and other than that, internal and external upholstery in very good nick.

Anyhoo, if we can get agreement on the work to be done then, as I say, It's looking good. Worst case is I walk away and keep looking but I am hopeful it will work out.

Why did you have the old props refurbed, was it for spares just in case?

Does £4k for new props, balanced and fitted sound feasible?

I refurbed them because I had them.
Initially, I took them home as a garden ornament but after a few weeks, I thought I'd see if they could be refurbed.
After Hamble Props had worked on them, they looked as good as new so I fitted them one year to see how they worked.
Eventually sold the boat with a complete spare set of props.

Yep - I would have thought the £4K should source a set of props but you have to get the correct pitch etc.
I was able to buy exactly the same size when I bought mine.
Note this was for our old 50 footer - I daren't think how much props for my P67 would be!!!

Its been a while since I bough a prop but I would think you would be nearer to £3K each these days. They will have been made either by Teignbridge or Clements. Also think the damaged prop could be repaired too. Worth a try.

Yes, that was mentioned and I am going to look into it. Cheers

On our "new to us" this year Velasco 37F we priced up some new props as the surveyor thought there may be some early stage electrolysis. All turned out to be fine but priced up replacements at about £2,500.

Cheers, was that the fitted price?

I have, tried it over two years in the med.
if you use the boat all year around its good, probably very good in the UK.
downside it needs very careful preparation
if you leave the boat over winter, eventually the crustaceans get a grip, problem then is you can't jet wash it to get rid of the fouling as the propshield comes off. then you have to get it all off, re-prep the props etc.
On balance I use velox, not perfect but better than nothing and easier to live with.

Has anyone used propspeed? Was thinking about getting it put on at the end of the season?

IMO, the big problem with coating the props is finding something that sticks.
Everything that I've tried comes off.
In fact, half of it comes off - the rest is a ?astard to get off the next time you want to coat them.
I just polish mine now.
When we had a boat in the UK, we just left the props unpainted - pbrackets, rudders and trim tabs etc were painted with ordinary anti foul.
In the med, I polish the lot but we get very cheap lifts and pressure washes that make it all manageable.

This is a mid season lift
Note that we have aggressive marine growth - It won't be like this in Torquay

Not sure about Torquay as boat will be in the Solent. What I was surprised at was the worms that were stuck to the anodes, like big, thick, stringy hats.

I have read threads about trying to get stuff to stick to the props and came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth bothering with but if anyone swears by something... My main aim is to try and get he damage to one of the blades sorted either via a/two new prop(s) or refurbing the damaged one and getting them both balanced.

Very impressive, did you clean it all yourself?
