It doesn't matter if the exhaust bellows fail, because the exhaust pipe is all enclosed and can't sink the boat.

It's the bellows that enclose the prop shaft that will cause issues if they fail.

There's millions of outdrive boats floating out there, I wonder how many sink due to a failure of one of the key seals that are part of the outdrive?

Not many I reckon.,....

I know of two boats on our pontoon in Ramsgate last year that nearly sank due to bellows letting go. One was out out sea and made a hasty return straight onto the hoist, the other was fortunate that the bilge pump could just about keep up with the influx of water until the lock opened so it could be towed to the hoist.

We owned an outdrive boat years ago and had no idea of the consequences of not getting the bellows replaced ??

After waking at 4.30 am…..headed down for the big day!

All I could think about was torques, valve clearances and oil pressure!

Primed everything…..cracked the injectors and span on the starter for 10 seconds. Nipped them up and turned the key!

Results below

Both started fantastic and settled quickly. Oil pressure rose very quickly…..phew.

eagle eyed will spot puddle of water port engine. Raw water pump seal so that’s off now ready for a rebuild.

Starboard water pump belt is too slack. Defo that belt as I sprayed it and the noise stopped. Ran both for 10 mins and all seems well. I was pleased with hardly any smoke too ?

First run after we did ours I was single handed and a tad apprehensive but all was good, as I am sure yours will be.

It's been really great to follow the rebuilds lots of useful tips picked up as well. I'm over the moon for you that its all gone so well, a couple of minor issues but we get them all the time anyway .

So we've heard those engines purr, now looking for ward to hearing them WOT.
