New Project

We spent hours in mid-winter outside my mates garage cleaning off the green paint from the hoses using acetone and standard domestic scotchbrite pads. I remember it being very cold and a bit of a job but it was well worth it as they looked a lot better when we put them back together. The cost of replacing all hoses was a bit steep back then (2008) and they were actually in fine fettle underneath the cracking paint so it wouldn’t have been money well spent.

I agree, they look much better in black. I have just been through this exercise with ours, I didn't know how old the hoses were so ended up renewing all the raw water ones, coolant and turbo next.

To be fair, the rubber hoses appeared totally fine internally, however the metal pipes had a lot of crud building up just over the lip and that was acting on the rubber. It was good to take them completely back to shiny metal and start fresh. The wet exhaust hose was the only one that was quite knackered.

You do realise he is from the IOM , he has three legs and three arms and his mother is his sister , he has never been off the island . That’s why we from north Wales send him, donations nail clippers are mostly donated. But I like him , ps I am the only one who has visited him , god he is ugly.

To be honest that looks a right good glass job on that sump.

Words that should not go together ?

Indeed! @Mr Googler , have you bought the green paint yet? ;)

12 cans ??

they are some jubilee clips! ???

is that a spring on top of these jubilee clips or what? shall I dare ask how much they are each or at least their exact name so I can search for them?

Good morning Mr. Vas, they're not springs, they are a series of belleville washers... here is a link to them... they're not cheap about £3.60ea for the ones I needed.
15.8mm Band Width, 304 Stainless Steel, Constant Tension, Pipe Clamp [P22022156] - £3.82 : Hoses Direct

Cheaper than the genuine Cat ones below though and the same style;

However the jury is out on them for the moment, I have also bought some Mikalors which I have always used on cars and will compare them soon...
Mikalor DIN 3017, Heavy Series, W3 S-Band Constant Tension Worm Drive Clip [P21377577] - £2.68 : Hoses Direct

Just watch those grades of S/S, particularly AISI 430 which may not be suitable for marine use.

Good point. I'm using these below the water line on the intake hose and from the sea cocks to the strainers...These don't need to be constant tension as they don't have to deal with heat fluctuations.
316 Stainless Steel, Superclamp, Hose Clamp [P22090849] - £4.62 : Hoses Direct

Currently the boat has the 304 version of the above off the sea cocks and although the band is free of oxidisation, the bolts are not.

I may stick with the Belleville ones for the coolant lines which are 304. Mine have quite a bit of tang left over which is a pet peeve especially when you catch yourself on one in the engine bay! Probably should have gone for the smaller size range but I went with the size on the Cat parts finder website. I managed to chew one of them up also which made me question if they're a bit soft. That said it will be interesting to see how 430 fares in the engine room, away from direct contact with saltwater but you're likely right, not the best idea. I might try one out and see how it fares as a curiosity, they're a lot less bulky.

Cheers
Nito

Well mr gogle when your boat is done and if we can get Bucek out of the marina i will put £50 to see who is the fastest between you pair and the loser pays £50 thats £100 to the winner. SS

Dont be silly. His boat will make it as far as the harbour parking lot and then stare at the water for 6 months before being sold on.

Feel like i've been short changed on my 3rd leg. I put it down to the cold weather

Yo, @Mr Googler , more updates please. Seacock got bored and went off to bait the mods by DM the plonker. No prize for guessing the outcome but he'll need something to occupy his wit and charm when he gets reinstated. Think of it as a charitable act.

No development as such….4 days off now so will do a bit.

Head is at the engineers. Had a supply issue though. Injectors went to PB Asher in Southampton. Really nice bunch. Tested them all and said all a bit naff and a few dripping (this is after they where “overhauled“ by the fibreglass hero). No tips available worldwide from Bosch!

Damn it!

Managed to find 12 in stock in Turkey (thanks google ??) and they are currently on a DHL plane! Phew.

been spending a few hours a night cleaning paint off the rubber hoses……deep joy ?

12 tips or 12 injectors (from Turkey)?

Much achieved today.

Sump put back on with far less sealant…….bet it leaks now ???

Descaled both heat exchangers too then stripped ready for new seals

Then…..3 hours getting all the sealant off the valve covers. Sprayed them too but forgot photos.

Head is getting checked, skimmed and valves done with new stem seals. Might as well!

The cleaning continues!
