Somewhere in this job you need to re ver the old saying If it ain’t broke don’t fix it or as I like to say it it ain’t broke don’t break it
That’s true but I’m taking the opportunity to do everything possible. Be silly not to but I think I’m at the bottom of the hole now ??

A big day!

12 lovely fully reconditioned injectors arrived

Set to installing and then came the dreaded valve cover install. Manual says 7mm of sealant….god knows how to measure that so I just made sure it was proud of the valve cover “feet”. Was worried I’d over done it

let it go off for a good half hour then started to install. Handily…..the cover sits on the injector spring cups so I got all the bolts started and brought it down evenly. Got it touching the sealant then left it another 20 mins before tightening down fully. Got a nice even line of sealant pushed outwards and visible at virtually every point around the join. Shone a light in the oil filler cap and again a nice even line on the bits I could see.

The only true test will be when they are in action again. I’ll cross my fingers! Feels like home stretch for this engine.

got to repeat it all again bar head gasket on the other but that one is much cleaner by comparison.

Did you send the oil off for analysis before you started stripping the engine, so you knew that there arent any more serious problems with it - eg worn bearings, piston rings etc? apologies if you covered this in an earlier post

nope….it had “allegedly ” been changed 6 months previously and run for an hour since. Didn’t see the point

My vote is one piston has been fiber glassed over after a small seize caused by sealant blocking piston cooling oil passages, while another has holes in the crown filled in with metal putty. All in keeping with the Top Bodge line

Have you seen the engines running, so you know they run ok?

I’ve had them at 40+ knots in March 2021. It’s done nothing since. Temps and pressures where ok….one went into limp but then came back and was fine…..oil pissed out from the rocker due to poor sealing skills…..there’s a surprise!

I had absolutely no faith in what had been done hence all this. I’m enjoying it! Just hope I haven’t cocked anything up!

I’ll you run them in your unit , if not at least put the oil in before fitting

I want to but as they are edc…..I’d have to remove the wiring kit from the boat.

im planning on spinning them over on the starter to build a bit of oil pressure with the ECU disconnected. Good idea?
