Oi, I claim the rights on Matthew, I used him first!
Interesting example, though. Coming to think of it, that must be the reason why Farage regularly dresses as a hairdresser, rather than "in vestimentis ovium". He obviously fears to be recognised! :D

Love the flag MapisM!

Classic example of how someone says in a pub "Well I've no idea. I suppose it's possible the govt might get the port authorities to invoice it, maybe, but i dunno." Then 4 pub conversations later it has become "The port authorities are invoicing it in advance". Twas ever thus!

LOL, it actually comes from another forum, I hope they don't mind!
Can't remember if I've ever used it around here in the past, but this occasion seemed appropriate: at this point in time, if a marina would do what was reported, they would even be criminally prosecutable for fraud, go figure...

Yup. Gossip is an amazing thing though. This tax was announced in parliament in week 1 of December. The draftsmen now have to draft the law, then it has to be passed by parliament, and the whole collection mechansim has to be explained to the people who are going to assess and collect it. Probably some forms and things have to be printed too. And of course the government and finance ministry are quite busy on macro eco issues, like a new EU treaty and other distractions from the country's #1 issue which is Boat Tax. Yet people report on December 20th that it is being invoiced. You Italians are one helluva well organised nation!

"No, it is as true as if it were printed in the Holy Bible. I have seen the gentleman who paid the tax. Admittedly, on second thoughts it was not really him, but it was however his brother.
However on reflection, it perhaps was not his brother but was however a very close friend of his brother, and this friend of his brother is as honest as any honest person could possibly be.
There is only complete truth in every thing I have said."

You must have gone to the wrong school, virtuvas!!

Italian boat tax mess

Here you go, if you are around from coming 1st May 2012 please be notified.

So if you visit Italy, or have a boat around the area, I think its wise to remove.

a) euro 5 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 10,01 metri a 12 metri;
b) euro 8 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 12,01 metri a 14 metri;
c) euro 10 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 14,01 a 17 metri;
d) euro 30 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 17,01 a24 metri;
e) euro 90 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 24,01 a 34 metri;
f) euro 207 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 34,01 a 44 metri;
g) euro 372 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 44,01 a 54 metri;
h) euro 521 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza da 54,01 a 64 metri;
i) euro 703 per le unità con scafo di lunghezza superiore a 64 metri.

These numbers are per day. A 50% discount is found on sailing yachts.
Discussions are being held to make something for boats on the dry, and older boats to 10 years.

I think this Italian government found a quick way how to destroy an industry which employs over 100,000 direct and over 250,000 indirect, and good ecomony period 2005-08 gave over 5 billion EUROS to the Italian state. In 06 it was 6 billion plus and last, and this year it give over 3 billion.

I would wait few months, after all is only a proposal: it need to be discuss at the parliament before being ratified. At this moment no even the text of the proposal is definitive. My feeling and hope is that pragmatism will kick in, seeing that it will cost far more that it may collect and be dropped altogeter as a bad call!

I have anecdotal evidence that the port authorities are invoicing their berth holders for it. An Italian friend told me that in San Remo they are invoicing their holders in advance, which strikes me as being slightly odd since the boats are likely to spend some time in other waters. :(

In my defense I did say the evidence was anecdotal and that I thought it was slightly odd.

nice one bg, comment was obviously tongue in cheek but a good elaborate translation nevertheless...
Having spend 10yrs of my life studying/working in sunny Somerset (or was it Avon then..) anyway in Bath, I'm quite happy with various accents from the south or sarf and midlands. Had to struggle a bit with cockney (especially as the said gent was p!ssed off his head by lunch time that we'd come across...) but the one that really gave me problems was a friend from Paisley! It would take me half a day every time we met (once-twice a year) to get my brain wired to decode his seemingly gibberish :) Then it was fine for the rest of the week, pain in the phone though...

ok, drifting again, sorry

Yup, and by someone who's not entitled to do that!
But even assuming that most people don't know and don't care about these technicalities, what's really funny is that it was declared immediately that the tax will be effective as of May 2012!

Apropos, I don't remember (and can't be bothered to check) if this was mentioned already.
Anyway, for those who don't want to pay anything to enjoy the Italian seas and coasts, yes, there are still a few months available FoC.
Don't miss this opportunity!
I can't assure that the weather will be the best we have to offer, but as the saying goes, you pays your money and you takes your chances... :D

No worries, I don't doubt for a minute that you just reported something you heard, and you're not supposed to know whether what they told you made sense or not.
Otoh, I couldn't resist... :D
Nothing personal, of course!

Paisley is definitely not for beginners!. I was born and bred in Northumberland (next door so to speak) but share your struggle with Glasgow accents. With dubious wisdom, several UK businesses have their call centres based there. Great folks though - even when you tell them you can't understand a word they are saying, they take it in good heart!
Lived in London's east end for 5 years though, so cockney comes more easily!
drifting a bit mysef now.....

Ferraris/Lambos and House rates have been targeted as well I believe.

I have this itch about taking boat to Italy for some time now and was hoping to depart Solent for Sicily next year. Having second thoughts now. Much as it pains me, Selling and buy below the threshold may be an option.
Maybe some of these costs may be offset by the rumoured rise in the Euro/£ thats supposedly going to happen over the next year, that I read about somewhere.Would be good for me to see E1.60 again but perhaps not for the UK economy.

Leave it a couple of years and Italy won't be in the Euro anymore and everything will be priced in cheap as chips Lire:)
