Anyone know what is the significance of this yellow buoy with a cross top mark that has appeared opposite Ferry Quay in Woodbridge. It wasn't there a week or so ago.
I have now seen a post on the East Coast Pilot Facebook page which explains this. It marks the end of the remnants of the old hard and slipway for the ferry between Woodbridge and the Sutton shore.
As we see boats flagrantly going the wrong side of the channel buoys, particularly the Red one just upstream, I wonder if it will be much help?
Given that the purpose described is to make river users aware of a hazard on the Sutton shore, would a Starboard hand buoy not have been more suitable. That should at least have kept them clear of the old hard, assuming they take any notice.
I think I agree with you. Yellow buoys are a special purpose. I was going to say that yellow buoys aren't (generally) lateral marks but Swallowtail proves otherwise! I guess sticking a post is quite difficult.
Went for a wander along that shore Friday evening, there are some nasty obstructions on that old hard so a good idea. The question is why not a North Cardinal, surely more appropriate.
