I just couldn't see the advantage of fixed displays over the variable ones as per this set up - other than cost I guess.
Absolutely. I did say it's a no brainer, when compared to acres of MFD displays.
My pet peeve is more vs. the (old-ish) habit of fitting just one MFD on the basis that you can get anything you want on its single screen.
Maybe it's me (though I don't think so - commercial boats are ALL configured in the same way, bar none), but I don't want displays capable of switching between several different functions, and neither a user interface allowing to do that easily.
Ideally, what I want is just enough real estate to show conveniently everything I need (which is way less than what any modern MFD is capable of, really), simultaneously, without requiring any interaction.
And pretty sure with all your displays (and their configurability), you'll be able to get that easily, without needing to tap and hold anything at all.
Which, no matter how easy, is just a side show that becomes boring after the initial wow effect, in my experience.

Aquaholic has just uploaded an F55 walkthrough on YouTube
He must have some serious problems either with math or currency exchange rates.
The video shows an offer to purchase 1/8 share of the boat for £230k, and the title mentions a $3.5M yacht.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...?!?

To be fair the US boats always seem to be quite expensive when advertised. I suspect something to do with shipping and local taxes. The video was made at the Southampton boat show so priced for the home market where delivery is change out of £250

MY LEGAL TEAM HAVE ASKED ME TO SAY THAT DELIVERY IN THE UK IS OF COURSE FAR MORE THE £250. NOTHING ONLY COSTS £250 WHEN BUYING A BOAT :) :)

We also use the cabinets opposite the galley to store stuff and as a serving area for things like afternoon tea.

You will note we didn't opt for a dishwasher. The ones fitted won't be big enough to cope with any serious washing, use a load of water and take too much time. They also waste kitchen real estate. I know for some people the thought of washing up whilst chilling on the boat is horrific, but for us a sink works well and is quick.

We will have to improve on the rubbish bin arrangement when chartering. A larger bin in the corner of the cockpit and probably a black back in the galley. Being more on display the black bag may morph into another bin but we'll see.

The drawers to the left of the microwave are quite deep and probably need to be used a bit more efficiently. I think they will become food storage rather than utensil storage.
Good to see a coffee maker on board Henry. I hope stocked with my favourite Lidl pods?

We’re trying a new Empress Grey tea bag at the moment. Exploring new avenues of taste. Oh, and we got some fresh dates from Yarmouth. We can’t get tomatoes but we can get dates !

Don’t think I’ve seen Empress Grey in Lidl. Is this an Aldi choice? Again, lots of tomatoes in Lidl. Have to get the can opener on them first.😉

Don’t be too harsh on the video. We were en-route to Yarmouth so I pulled into Newtown Creek, got the covers off and the drone out. My legs turn to jelly when I’m flying the drone over water and launching / recovering off the boat but thankfully it made it back in one piece.

I think we’ll get a professional video shot this time. On the P50 I did some drone shots of it running and nearly lost the drone when it decided to head back to the start point presumably to land in the sea. Managed to cancel it just in time but lots of shouting :)

This was much more relaxed.

edited to say you can see what a brilliant job the Gyro Stabiliser is doing :)

She really looks impressive, I could believe the boat were a 70 footer, if I were seeing her for the first time. (y)

But ref the gyro... In that stretch of water, flat enough for a slalom waterski tournament?!?
All it's good for in those conditions is as a ballast! :p

My point is that having got a boat with Gyro the Solent has refused to give me anything that rocks us more than 1 degree. Even boat wake no longer seems to work enough with it switched off to test the damn thing.

To be fair I think the F55 is a fundamentally more stable boat than the P50 Mk3 particularly at rest in somewhere like the marina. Whether that's down to hull design - and it is very different, or the fact that the sea keeper adds low down weight? Probably a bit of both.

Aha, gotcha.
No worries, I'm sure you'll have chances to exploit the gyro, no matter how stable the boat is!

It's important to switch the drone's reaction to losing contact with the controller to 'hover' rather than the default 'return to home' when filming on a moving boat for exactly the reason you describe. If you'd not been able to reestablish contact it would indeed have returned to the start point and descended into the sea. When set to 'hover', if you lose contact again it will simply stop and stay where it is at the altitude it is, giving you far more chance to get back to it and reestablish connection.

Agreed
But you have to remember to do that before you fly!!
There is so much other stuff going on (getting exposure right - someone else driving the boat - etc) that it is very easy to forget those kinds of things

And when you don’t fly that often all these things aren’t second nature. The hand eye co-ordination I have no problem with it’s the buttons and different modes that are the issue.

I think we’ll bite the bullet and have a professional put something together for us this time.

Boat looks great in the vid, Henry. But the green water, cloudy skies and weak sunlight perhaps aren’t optimal touch points for would be charterers.

We’ll be getting in a professional to make it look like the Mediterranean.

Yarmouth was black after the Dutch crew had been in to pressure wash The sea bed. They’re sending the silt elsewhere.

Nice job H. That Gyro has transformed the Solent 😄
