Mercman,

This just an opinion from my own experiance but I doesn't matter how well it's finished if it aint big enough, you wont be happy.

Try taking your other half and kids shopping in a ferrari and see how long it takes to realise a "Mondeo" would do the job better.

Kev,

I fear it's to late, he sounds like a man in love /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Mercman, enjoy whatever you end up buying (my money's on the Monterey). Look me up if you end up in Port Solent.

I couldnt afford the Vogue, got the TD6 HSE, added petrol Vogue alloys and it looks alot better.

I had the 2001 Bayliner 2655 wider body that the 2000, loved every minute of it and did everything I needed, think they are about £44k new today, might be slight wrong.

I swapped for a 1999 Sealine F44 with only 25hrs after 4 years, the boat was like new and alot cheaper.

Not trying to put you off the monterey 265, I don't know the boat. Just make sure you are not overwhelmed by new gel coat. Good hunting at the weekend and I hope you find what you need (and not what you think you want).

errr unless you want to take a massive hit on depreciation then don't buy this boat. As you 've said you haven't seen many/any second hand, there is probably a good reason, e.g. not many sold/resellers of sucha brand therefore if you want to resell you may have a lot of trouble.

FWIW I'd buy a European boat rather than US at that budget but it is purely personal taste. I thin the yanks are good at the 20ft level fro the money but look ropey in terms of design and underlying quality after 25ft. I accept that may be unfair especially as I thin the Monterey is Canadian? But they all look a bit kit car designed after 25ft if you know what i mean. IMHO

Disagree wholeheartedly with that wide brush of a statement about USA boats- whats so new and great looking about the Fairlines, princess, Sunseeker these too all look very similar!!! each could be built by the other. Look at some US manufacturers they build some very different looking boats especially their bigger fishers ( not to my taste but atleast they are having a go) and the likes of Tiara etc arent to be sniffed at! and the old cliche of build quality is always just under the surface and as yet i have not had any reason to change my thinking that the better US boats are more than a match for their UK rivals. take a look at 30 year Formula boats that still look like new and tell the owners they arent up to the UK boats for quality!! anyone in the business will tell you otherwise.

all IMHO of course

.Buy whaadever you want...........
Chances are you will either be told by the missus that it is bit crampyfied and she is fed up with going bang crash bang ouch ouch on every trip out or you will spot something you fancy out there which is a bit bigger anyway.
By the way every last one of those boring old diesel Fairlines n Princesss out there will get you and and your family and a few mates there and back in comfort and you will get all your dosh back when you sell to boot. Why do you think all those folks out there have stuck to a few well known makes.

What makes you think depreciation would be "massive"?

The reason there are not many secondhand is because they have only been out for a year. They are selling very well and have some very good feedback from certain RYA instructors who are regular contributors in this forum.

Demand for new is also outsripping supply so is further helping to support resale values.

Agree about the fact that there are some nice European boats but have you ever been on a Monterey 265? There are a lot of very, very impressed people out there who did a lot of sea trials of all sorts of boats before they bought.

Which part do you think looks "kit car"!?!?

Oh... and it's not Canadian... it's US.

What boats would you look at, price for price, that are alternatives?

I guess from the name you're a bit biased but I'm thinking of buying a boat with KAD 32's this weekend and I would appreciate a more detailed explanation of any probs. with these engines.

In another thread people seeemed pretty happy with them.

Thanks for any guidance you can give.
