I need signal flags to decorate the boat for the Glasgow river festival. Where's the best place to buy some that I could have before the weekend?

Joe.
Why dont you go to the cotton print factory in kinningpark, buY the material, (colours etc) and sew them up would only take a few hours.
Or there is a printing place on Paisley rd west where you could maybe get some printed up quite quickley.
How did you get on with the oxalic acid, did it work well, what percentage did you mix it to?
Cheers, C_W.

try gaelforce marine, or local chandlery, or see if you can borrow from any yacht which might have a set who are not on the river festival.

gael force should be able to courier them to you in time, but best bet would be to source from local chandlery, unless they've had a rush on them and sold out...

or try magellen flags, closer to you then gaelforce

International Code of Signals Flags ...
The International Code of Signals consists of the usual 40 flags. We can also make these flag sets to a custom size on application.

All Magellan Flags (except lightweight series) are sewn panels using MoD specification flag polyester and fitted with rope and toggle.

I don't fancy my chances with a sewing machine, I'd rather just buy some if I can get them delivered in time.

The oxalic is fantastic stuff. I didn't really measure to a specific percentage, just added to some water in the bottom of a bucket until it wouldn't dissolve anymore. Recipe courtesy of Cliff!

Thanks, I just had a quick look at their website and it's looking good, might be a trip tomorrow.

Don't suppose you know where to find a new flag staff? The inclined socket is 47.5mm internal diameter and 107.5 mm depth at it's shallowest. Possibly 6ft

i would try your local chandlery first, i am fortunate that my local chandlery is mailspeed marine, and they have a vast stock of items, very rarely they havent got what i want...

where's your nearest chandlery, i've just googled and come up with rhu marine, surely there is somewhere closer???

It is a bit of a trek from Glasgow but at least I would be able to have them there and then instead of waiting for the post.

Any other flag manufacturers in or around Glasgow?

I had my trip to Magellen Flags this afternoon, well worth the drive. Tam is a character, his stock is overflowing and his products are excellent. He gets my vote.

Thanks for tip.

I had a look in Duncans and would have given them the business but the ones they had were very small. I wanted a set of very large ones. Magellan had loads of different sizes. Well worth the drive.
