Ah But

With your reasoning they will be buying two bars (one each) the question ony mentions a bar meaning one. I think we will have to wait for the answer from Sir/Miss /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

In the mean time perhaps you can answer this question?

My three elderly sisters clubbed together and bought a radio for thirty pound i.e. £10 each.

The owner of the shop didn't tell the sales girl he had knocked £5 off the price, so he sent the girl to my sisters to give them the £5 back

But on the way the girl pocketed £2 and gave my sisters back £1 each.

Now because they had each put £10 in and recieved £1 back means they paid only £9 each

3 x £9 = £27

£27 and the two ponds the girls stole = £29 where has the other £1 gone ?

Re: Ah But

That 'ol chestnut, it all works 'cos you're not comparing apples with apples. With the discount of £25 the sisters are paying 8.33 so should have got a a refund of £1.66 each with a £1 they are still .66p each short that's the £2 the girl stole.

Re: Ah But

So what you are saying then,
If you gave me ten pounds and I gave you one pound back, you have only paid £8.33p ;)

Oh 3 x 66p dont come to £2 :)

I haven't read your profile, but I'll bet your missing 2p that you work in my local tax office :)
