I have a Target HF3/W ssb receiver on board my boat in Spain. The receiver is about 7/8 years old.

I'm in the UK at present and heading out there soon. I have had limited success using it in the past for weather data but the software for my laptop needs replacing I reckon. (new laptop )

I contacted Nasa about the software side of things and was told the receiver needs new hardware as well, send it to them etc etc and it would be sorted and new software on cd not floppy, all for @£45 which sounds ok. I can't remember which programme I was last using anyway !!

The problem is, receiver in Spain, me in UK, no chance of sending it to Nasa and getting it back before sailing !!

Can anyone let me know if they are using the same receiver of a similar age without hardware changes and if so what software you are using as well ?

I'd like to be able to get it up and running again quickly when I get out there as I've got a lot of other things to sort out before the rest of the family join me for the summer.

Any help will obviously much appreciated.

I got rid of my nasa and got one of these instead..

Much better radio. You just need a mini jack to jack from line out on radio to mic in on the laptop and software is free. I use jvcomm. http://www.jvcomm.de/index_e.html. Or if your nasa has a headphone out you can use that with jvcomm.

Cheers Conachair, So this bit of kit will do the same if not more than the Nasa jobbie ? I particularly want RTTY, Weatherfax and Navtex. It looks like it covers all the frequencies.

Does it need an auxilliary aerial or is the built in good enough ?

Ever used it in the Med ?

Thanks for your time.

Does the same plus more than the nasa. Lots of memories. I]ve used it mainly for weatherfax and bbc world in the atlantic, not sure about weatherfax reception in the med. I had it recieving weatherfax with just its own aerial but now have a wire sewn into the sprayhood.
