My Vivacity 20 has a NASA Stingray fitted. It has A and B settings which presumably are coarse and fine.

I would appreciate some pointers for using it as I've only ever used digital readout depth gauges before.

Thanks & happy sailing.

I had a NASA stingray twin for a while. If I remember rightly the A & B are for the 2 depth scales. I had the stingray twin. It had four knobs. Deep and Shallow alarms, the a & b range, and a gain control. What model do you have, I have got a maunual for it along with the unit itself somewhere as I up graded it a while ago. The stingray is a basic unit, but in some instances can be quiet a boon as less knob fiddling and button pressing when your trying to conserntrate on other things.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Yes BarryH is right A& B are for the two depths, you will not see much on B untill you are in deep water, and also agree simple to use and clear.
Barry you say you have an old Twin Nasa unit, mine works fine but this season the digital display is playing up,does your old unit work and do you want to sell it?

Yep it still works, only had it on the boat for one season. The old seafarer unit went wrong and the nasa worked off the seafarer transducer. Its in the box with the mounting brkt, unused transducer, power cable and instruction book. I upgraded to an Eagle sumfinkoruvver. Its just gathering dust under the stairs at the mo. It all worked when I took it off the boat. Sometimes regret taking it off. The new thing is all menu driven off of 3 buttons and can be a pain with frantic button pressing and head tilting to read it in direct sunlight. I'm in surrey.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

I kept my uinit as a spare when I changed to a Dual Digital Echo-pilot unit in the cockpit ..... they use same transducer - despite what others say ! .....
It stayed in the underbunk locker in the forecabin .... about a year in all .... next to the fuel tank.

Took it out a few months ago to check it and found :

All casing screws rusted
Knobs turning with 'orrible scraping noises
Plugged unit in to see if it worked ....... had an LED on, sometimes yellow sometimes red ... but no flash, no whirring gizmo around the dial ..... tried everything and ended up putting it back in the box, back under the bunk and resigned it to a rainy day project !!!

God knows what would have happened if I had kept it mounted for use ...... survived all that I could throw at it probably and still work !!!! Keep it in its box, under the bunk and its shagged !!
